I'm looking into getting my first passat which is an 98 wagon. My question is, is it possible to do the b5.5 front end on these?

I apologize if this is a redundant question, I'm trying to learn the world of passats
Also I did search and found very little helpful info.

Yes it has been done before, but I only know of one. I can't find any pictures of it but I believe the owner called it a b5.25. I do not know what all it consists of but im sure its a matter of brackets and mounting points.

You have to swap the front bumper, upper and lower grilles, headlights, fenders, hood, and radiator support. A few brackets and such, and modify some wiring. I think you may have to do something with the hood latch, too. Also, when you're done, the rub strip on the front bumper won't match the rest of the car. It's been done more than once.

Personally, I like the older B5 front end; looks trimmer and sleeker. The integral fog lights on the B5 work better than the separate B5.5 ones. But to each his own.

I also think you should stick with the b5 front end and refresh it with some headlight lens correction etc. I like the b5 look a lot, at least as much as the b5.5, maybe a tad more. Very sleek.

It's a pain in the ass you switch all that stuff. It's not as easy as some cars, say a honda accord, where all you had to do was change front bumpers and maybe a bumper support.

      Its been done.

B5 to B5.5 with W8 headlights, Rieger lip and smoothed and painted euro rubstrips. Pics show unpainted still.

Why not just buy a B5.5?

I like the B5 front end better. Personal opinion and bias.

I appreciate the replies! I've just been a little torn between the front ends but have always liked the b5.5 better. I've done a bit more research on the passat world forum and they do call it a b5.25. I may just be on the fence because I haven't seen as many well done b5 front ends (as I'm new to passats) but if I could see some examples you all may convince me to stay b5.

I'm looking to do something badgeless with some sort of simple valance like the Reiger one above. I've been searching and learning a lot so I feel that I'm on the right track here. Feel free to post some front end shots!
