Thread: Mk3 Jetta/Golf and '98 Cabrio Fender Compatibility

    1. 06-06-2013 01:55 PM #1

I drive a 1998 VW Cabrio and I'm looking to replace the front passenger fender. It picked up a nasty dent and tear in the paint that I'd rather replace myself. Is the fender for the Mk3 Golf/Jetta compatibile with '98 Cabrio? The front ends of the Golf and Cabrio look exactly the same, I just want to be sure.

we looked at putting 98 GTI fenders on my Cabrio so i didnt have to shave the Wolksburg crest hole and antenna, but after looking at them we decided to keep the cabrio fenders on and not mess with cutting anything to fit. it was easier to shave everything and keep the fenders aligned correctly.

They're not the same, the cabrio's fenders are shorter at the rocker panel.

What exactly do you mean by that? so theyre more or less identical except the rocker panel bit extends down farther than a cabrio one? And the antenna hole isnt a concern, it's the passenger side.

Since Cabrio's dont have roofs they rely on the rocker for strength. The rockers are reinforced and run the whole length of the car. Cabrio finders are bobbed at the bottom and have have a flange for mounting. Golf/Jetta fenders are part of the rocker and wrap underneath.
