I'm not caught up on the developments in TVs recently, so I'm looking for some help.

I need one TV to be larger than 46", to be used in a naturally bright room. No directly light onto the screen but it's pretty bright. Prefer to have it be a Smart TV, but if that is a gimmick, then I can skip it. Will be seated about 8 feet away from the screen.

The second needs to be larger than 26", to be used in a dark room, seating about 6 feet away.

Both will be used for primarily sports and Netflix watching.

I have no idea where to look for TVs, or what a good price is for them, I haven't needed one in over 5 years.

If you can help me find 2 that fit those specs for under $900, it'd be awesome. If I can only buy crap TVs for that much, let me know and I can adjust budget hopefully.

      TL;DR 26"+ and 46"+ TVs for under $900 total.

I just bought 2 new HDTVs in the past month, one for my kids playroom, one for my home office
      Samsung 51" Plasma 1080p - $599
      Toshiba 39" LED 1080p 120Hz - $349

Both new, both at BB. The plasma tv might not suit your bright room requirement...but your $900 requirement is somewhat doable.

Best Buy, Crutchfield Outlet, Walmart, Target can all solve the price problem for you. Cnet.com is pretty accurate with rating and listing the places that have the best prices for all electronics. Not only that but you can type in your parameters (size, led, lcd, plasma, smarttv) and they shoot out what fits the bill and the cheapest 5 prices where it's available.

Thanks for the help, I'll be looking around at work today. I just bought a house after living in an apartment with shared furniture for 3 years, so I'm basically started from square one when it comes to this stuff.

I wouldn't be terribly concerned with a plasma in a fairly bright room. Granted, I'm not an over-the-top A/V dork, but I put a 50" Panasonic plasma in my living room about a year and a half ago and I couldn't be happier with it. Got it at Costco with an additional 3 years of warranty for about $650 out the door... I'm sure they can be had for a bit less at this point.

I just seen an LED LG 55" for 500-600 bucks so getting a 46" and 27" ($300 and 600) sounds reasonable....

50+" plasma.. panasonic, or as a backup Samsung. Many available for $600-650ish, even 1080p.

26-30" LCD.. any decent brand should work..

Well, i was going to point you to the TV we bought about a month ago but it looks like the price went up 200 dollars. We got ours for 760 shipped from Amazon.
It's got google TV (with a dual core processor so it actually functions). Nice being able to use amazon prime and netflix, as well as download all the latest 3D stuff (mostly for a wow factor but not necassary).

The remote is pretty awesome. It's got a pointer and keyboard on the backside.

Looked over at Cnet, found this combo to be doable. What is everyones opinion here?

Obviously the price is subject to change if I can find them cheaper locally, but both of these were in the top 5 best in their size class.

Thoughts? I'm ok with paying more for a better brand, but not more than $900 between the two.

I just replaced the lamp in my Sony 1080p XBR 50" projector that's a few years old for $150. Some folks don't realize that's all it takes to make them work and look fantastic... and people are practically giving 4-year-old projectors away on CL.

I have had vizios since they came out and i love them. I have a 47inch 120hz LCD and 60inch 240hz LED i think combined i paid 1100 for them but you can find better deals on them now. Check Sams club if you have one near you, as well as Best Buy or Walmart.

Good deals can be had on them.

The Sharp Aquos are great as well my mom has a 60inch 240hz LED one and the picture is great and can be had for around 800 for the 60inch.

I would go to at least a 50" for the main room if possible. Other than that the Vizio's seem reasonable. I had always purchased Sony TV's but when I needed a new one in my living room I gave Vizio a try. It has been very nice so far.

I picked up a 60" LG smart TV from microcenter a month ago. Greatest deal I have seen. Plasma smart TV from a top brand for $599. Obviously that deal is dead, but keep an eye out and be ready to jump when you find something. Mine is beautiful and came with a 6 month netflix trial.
