5ft bed and needed to transport 16ft boards. Is it possible? Sure is!
In retrospect, was not the best idea but everything arrived undamaged. Did not drive very far.
Those are 17 hardie trim boards. Heavier than your typical wood boards.
This is from the the Habitat For Humanity ReStore, a vintage steel desk and all metal rolling chair for my garage. It still had business cards in one of the drawers. I scoped it out the night before a 50% off sale, total cost $17.50.
This is how I would transport tires in the Miata. Jack and tools went in the trunk, 4th tires on the passenger seat, cooler and everything else in the passenger floor area.
Lucky!
I recently replaced my rear tires for better ones although they only had 1k miles on them so I took them home so I can post them for sale. I couldn't even get one tire in my trunk even with my trunk being gutted. I ended up having to squeeze them on the passenger seat and had to put the 2nd one in through the window with the door closed.
The Vanagons come in handy for hauling all kinds of stuff. I wish he took a picture of it, but a few years ago, my husband fit a full 3 piece sectional in my FIL's Vanagon. All doors shut too. Helped a friend move this past weekend and it was a similar story. We were impressing everyone  Fit a king and queen mattress in it, all at one time.
We also hauled a bunch of lumber in my FIL's Syncro:
Those are 10ft boards. You can fit 12ft (and we have) if you put them through the middle. Drywall fits great. We love Vanagons. You can fit larger stuff than a pickup, and its always covered. Only thing that doesn't fit is a queen boxspring, and thats only because of the AC. Without it, no problems (we tried once, and the boxspring we literally only needed about a half inch more space).
I drove the ashes of my grandparents and their little dog from San Francisco to Dallas. Two years ago, I planned to bring a bunch of my stuff from SF back to Dallas but the night before leaving, my dad let me know I'd be taking the ashes of my grandparents and their little dog back to Texas so they could be buried there. They were originally from Houston but were essentially moved out to SF so my parents could take care of them. Anyway, it was a weird feeling knowing I was taking them back to the state they loved where they will forever remain.
Here's a pic of the car while in Vegas. My dad rode along with me until ABQ then flew back.
Nice to know the car can handle that, not sure how my GLI would fare though. I put a dozen retaining wall blocks in it and felt like I was overdoing it.
Not too crazy, as I did this pretty much every weekend.
(Dont mind the temporary rental-house garage)
I never got a picture but this was brought from Charleston, SC to Michigan in the back of a new Eurovan. Strapped it down to the seat mounts and called it a day.
Wheels in the funk, along with luggage for a week, camera stuff, riding gear, snacks, etc.. I was always impressed with the practicality that the two trunks afforded in that car.
Not all that crazy, but impressed that the tires (for the Boxster) all fit side-by-side:
I've had all kinds of crap in my Si (two MTBs and two people; one MTB, one fiancee, a ton of mason jars, and an 8' tall chuppah for our wedding; 2 dogs, one MTB, 2 people, and luggage for a week, etc.), , but no photos.
