Area Restaurant Worker Tests Positive for Hepatitis A
    Updated: Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 - 11:48 AM EST.

(HANOVER, Md.)-- Health officials announced Friday that some people may have
to receive medication called immune globulin for disease prevention after a
Jillian's Sports Cafe restaurant employee tested positive for hepatitis A.
Officials said anyone who drank beverages at the restaurant in the Arundel
Mills Mall between December 4 and December 15 should call their local health
department to determine if they should be immunized.

They said that anyone who drank beverages with ice or had fresh cut lemons
    should call health officials.

The risk of transmission is considered to be low, but health officials say
the public should be aware of the incidence because they say immune globulin
    provides further protection.

I know there is a contingent of Maryland 'vortexers who gather often and whom have patronized the Jillians establishment at Arundel Mills. My office hosted a going-away lunch for our former teammate at the restaurant on the 12th of December... right in the middle of the warning dates 4-15 Dec.

If any of you have dined at Jillians or had a drink with ice or fresh cut lemon in it, please check out the links above and take care of yourselves.

    Thanks Lindsay!

I got my shot a little while ago... in my left hip! It stung a little, but now it just feels like a little bruise. I'm good to go to the UK this week!

The company I work for had our corporate party back on the 6th, and we had the whole bar/lanes to ourselves - thank goodness I had my shots back in high school. That news story was emailed to everyone, but I haven't heard if any of our employees were infected.

i know a girl that works there...she's a bratender...told me the whole story...all i can say is YUCK!!!!! OMFG!!!! why can't people just wash thier freakin' hands after going to the bathroom?!?!?! is it really that hard!!?!?!

the worst part about it imo...is that the co. is only testing those who work in the kitchen because they "were the only ones exposed"...ummmmm, hellllloooo???? that place should be shut down and throuroughly sanitized!!!!

i wouldn't be surprised if it goes out of business, i know i'll definitly never go back.

The doctor I spoke with only confirmed that an employee there had been diagnosed with Hep A... she couldn't say if it was a guy or a girl and there was no way of knowing that the person themselves hadn't contacted it in another way. There is no way to know a person's hygene habits for certain.

However, since this person did work in the food services, the counties felt it neccessary to not only spread the word but also to offer the shots to anyone who may have been further exposed so that it may be kept in check.

I know some of you guys have gotten together for coffee, go-karts, ski trips, videogames, parties, billiards, dinner, etc... and that Jillians is a popular spot. If my posting helps keep any one of you guys or gals from getting sick, I'm happy to do so.

as far as i've heard, if you had it, you'd know...it is a very violent illness if left untreated...so hopefully you're ok, but if you've been feeling achey or anything, you may want to get checked out...

Thanks for the heads up on this, my Fiancee's aunt works down there and goes to the bars/clubs all the time. Just got off the phone with her (she's up here for the holidays) and she said she wasn't there in over a year but she's going to inform her friends who might have been there.
I drive a wagon... even if you beat me, can you brag about it?
