Did spray Red VHT paint over the OEM smoked tails? Or did you get another set and then spray over those?

Got good amount of work done this weekend and picked up new parts for the GTI

New Shifter bushing/ breather hose came in the mail

Picked up tear drops for my winter tires.

Got so lowering spring and stunts. Before I put them on I cleaned them up and repainted them

Random Progress shot. Old radio on the floor

After all set and done It now sits 23inchs fender to ground from 25 ish and only 2 things left to do before winter. Install Hatch and Shifter bushings

Go the car on the road this weekend

Had it safety done so I can get my plates and insurance setup.

I found out when I got the safety done the hand brake cables were ****ed and need 2 new ones as well the timing belt was about to snap any min that wouldn't of been fun also the tensioner was 100% seized. I was able move the timing belt side to side ouch. Also found out the source of my oil leak the valve cover seal was leaking so bought a new one and did that.

Sure was a good weekend for getting things done! Man does she run way better after getting the timing belt done.

      Old seal

I got hit with bad luck this week on Wednesday.

Both front ball joins failed some how and the passenger axle. I didnt hear signs of the going but what ever **** happens. normally I would of try to fix it my self , but I was cold and I needed to get to work so I took it to a local shop vw that took 3 days ! what the hell I thought he would of had it done in 1 day pick it up that afternoon, most shops have same day shipping on parts.

here are some pictures from 5 am on a cold morning with freezing rain

      Passenger wheel vs driver

On the tow truck covered in ice

On saturday at work Found a bit of damage from the wheel rubbing the fender

In the end I had a bit of good luck. I bought a mk4 shift knob off ebay from some hong kong seller that had great feed back when i bought the car. it showed up in the mail it was a air filter not a shift knob! wtf so I email the guy get my money back 2 days later it shows up! So I got it for free !

      Installed it today

I havent been driving it lately since my brakes stopped working you have to push to the floor to get anything out of it. did a bit of reading looks like the master cylinder went. I bought a new one and since monday is my birthday my Parents got me some much needed motor mounts. BFI Stage .5

Went to change the master my self and well everything if STUCK! on even using the right tools lots of penetration fluid nothing so I renting a dolly and towed it to SEM motorsports. Its feeling like my R32 when I first bought it always broken

Same was I when I first saw it. All the other cars I looked at around the same price were rusted and just dirty and beat!

This car overall is clean but poor maintenance from the previous owner is killing me. I hope now Iv worked out it kinks, come spring it will need a new clutch since its feels like its on the way out.

Glad you didn't get hurt when that ball joint failed! I wouldn't be too bummed about neglected maintenance, I had to do the master cylinder, clutch, wheel bearings, CV axel, strut bearings and head gasket within the first 6 months of owning mine. Good learning experience at the very least

I'm lucky I wasnt on the Hwy, I was just turning on residential roads when it fails so I was maybe doing 20kph on a very icy road. Its a old car to so maintenance is to be expected so Im just lucky the car isnt a pile of rust.
