Thread: 2000 Jetta TDI-Strange front end noise

    1. 01-21-2003 07:06 PM #1
I have had a weird noise in my front end for along time. It is when the car is cornering especially on bumps (like pulling in my parking garage). The noise sounds like springs or the suspension flexing. I replaced my suspension with the Eibach Pro-System with dampeners and springs, the noise is still there. We also replaced the upper strut bearings and bushings. Any other ideas because we have to take apart the front end to replace the bumpstops anyway.

Is it a creaking noise ? My 99 TDI Golf was doing that brand new. The dealer said couldn't hear a thing. Then I drove a Jetta 4 loaner with 2K on the clock and it was doing the same. The noise disappeared after a while.
Unless you hear a clunking noise, i wouldn't bother. If it clunks check the threaded caps on the struts for tightness.

Yeah, it's a creaking noise. I also brought it to the dealership and they said it was because of my aftermarket TSW wheels (not). Anyway I replaced my struts and springs and it still does it. I started thinking maybe it was the ABS but it does it even when the brakes aren't engaged. Also, replaced the front factory sway bar and that didn't solve it either. Oh well I guess it's nothing.

I heard it on my 2002 Jetta when it was brand new. It has 9,000 on it now and the noise is gone.

I had the same problem on our 2000 Jetta TDI. It started as a creaking and then became a clunk over bumps. It was the anti-sway bar links on the hub/carriers. Just gad to tighten them up. Got 63K on the clock.

On MK4 usually it's one of two things that make noise in the front end.
The strut mounts or the sway bar links.
The strut mounts usually do a loud " clacking " noise over bumps.
The links will groan, squeak and make a funny " tac " noise.
