Why do you want the 6 speed?
Your car will be slower as you have to make more gear changers..

If your current transmission is not broken, drive it until it is, then worry about this swap. There's a lot of info on the TDI forums concerning swapping O2M transmissions, but unless your current transmission is hosed, I wouldn't bother. The only thing you should need is the 6-spd gearbox. Everything else should be identical. Oh, and a shift knob that has the six speeds on it. The shift linkage may need a little adjusting, but you shouldn't have to replace it.

Oh, and RIP Paul Walker x2.

Yes, I did it. I kept gears 1-2 from my five speed, and got 3-6 from a DBQ donor from Jeff Bipes. The work was done expertly by Scotty DeWitt at Advanced Automotion in Texas. Sixth gear is basically an overdrive, since the fifth gear ratio was the same in both transmissions.

I also replaced all shift forks with welds, rather than rivets. I then had all the gears cryo-treated and WPC-treated.

That's true, for a 180Q, then all he would need is the transmission itself. However if it's an FWD TT, he'll need the starter, slave TO bearing combo, clutch/FW/PP, axles, motor mount bridge, and the linkage on top of the transmissions. You don't have to change the slave line like a lot of people say you do. Depending on which linkage he gets, he may need new cable ends (ball and socket vs pin and clip style). The in car shifter works fine, and you don't have to change the knob from 5 to 6 unless you want.

See, now there you go confusing me again. Which is it? Just transmission, or transmission and more?? ;-)

Man, I'm 0 for 2 in this thread. I deleted the other post, if he's a 180Q, all he needs is the trans.

When I did it on my Quattro, all that was needed was the transmission & donor. My DieselGeek Sigma 6 short shift kit swapped over from the 5-spd to the 6-spd without any modification. No different or new cables or linkages were required. See below images for parts list and gear ratios (note that the later receipt is because Imola had to have Scotty rebuild the transmission a second time, because they forgot to torque the drain plug).

thanks lads. there is nothing wrong with my 5spd gearbox, i have a built motor and big turbo setup we are going to install... my issue was i was looking for a lsd for the 5spd and couldn't find one anywhere... i had a look and the 5 and 6 spd box look very similar i just wasn't sure if there was any differences with the axles, starter and such... not really sure what I'm gonna do just yet, i have been through and rebuilt plenty of o2m and o2q boxes so i know them well enough.

You should be able to put the six speed 02M LSD in the five speed 02M, Q trans = Q trans as long as it's not R32 = VR6 bellhousing.

Cool... I wondered because the case looks very alike. I may pull the trigger and get one and see if it works
