      Just started listening recently..

The Amphetaminies, Call me Malcolm, Capdown, The English beat, Less Than Jake, Madness, The Planet Smashers, The Specials, Streetlight, and so forth, has found its way into my ipod.

      Good ska is timeless.

I listen to a bit of Fishbone, Madness and even some old school Jimmy Cliff or Toota and the Maytals I'd consider somewhat ska.

Ska IS timeless. There are a ton of bands still playing and I am always down for a good ska show.

You guys should check out this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480025/
I believe it is on Netflix and if you like that scene, it's a great flick to watch with an awesome soundtrack.

Got into it a couple years back - hearing it for the first time live in some random bar in Chicago.

Was into Real Big Fish - mainly because it was re-mixed songs that I already knew the words to and was easier to sing after a few beers LOL

      ah the good ol days
never got to see buck-o-nine live and they had amazing songs to cruise/jam to. less than jake when they were still playing ska. rx bandits were at the top of my music list for a long time. still remember the cheap shows and skank pits. super fun times.

This. I listen to a lot of different genres, but ska has been one of my favorites for years. Out of the tons of concerts i've been to (everything from Elvis Costello to Wu-Tang Clan), some of the best were ska shows. If you ever get a chance, go see a Slackers show. I've seen them 15 times now and they are always spot on. I saw Mephiskapheles last month and they are incredible live as well.

Oh and props to the guy who above-mentioned The Suicide Machines. Destruction by Definition is one of my all-time favorite albums.

I used to be big into Streetlight and used to listen to a lot of the bands posted so far regularly.

But how about this for some nostalgia if you were a 90's kid. The Toasters - Two Tone Army served as the Nickelodeon Kablam theme song.

Edit: Just had a flashback to a thread I made way back in 2009. Where were all you Streetlight fans back then, huh?

Why does it matter? Listen to whatever you want. Look at Classic rock. Do you think people will stop listening to the Beetles because they aren't around anymore? Plus Ska is still around, just not mainstream music which IMO is better anyway.

Suicide Machines are doing an east coast tour this spring with 3/4 original members, as far as I know this is the first time playing shows outside of Detroit since they disbanded in 2006. The set list at least for Philly is going to be the complete Destruction By Definition album

The Wailers are considered early Ska imo and I;d def check out Lee Skratch perry

AAA, Rancid man I love me some Ska

Great choice to start getting in to man.

My taste leans more to the punk side of the ska-punk spectrum, but Bosstones aren't bad. Will be seeing them for the first time at the Punk Rock Bowling Festival in May this year

I'm gonna see the RX Bandits tonight at a private acoustic show here in Baltimore.

they are amazing musicians. former ska, not so much anymore but if you like music you owe it to yourself to look them up. they are the best unknown band around. period.

I love ska, but old stuff, late 60's to 80's. I can't seem to be able to get into the modern stuff. Nothing wrong with it, bands are tight, just not my thing.

The Ska scene was huge here in 94-98. Growing up a punk kid it was a natural progression. Some of the shows and my favorites were:

      The mudsharks
      Dance Hall crashers
      The busters
      Bosstones
      Toasters
      Skankin Pickle
      Voodoo glow skulls

..lots more, but got to see all of these live multiple times and still puts a smile on my face when I hear them
