Reports are saying it was shot down by Russian supplied Buk AA missiles. Someone screwed up big time here.

      17 JULY 2014

A Malaysian passenger airlliner, reportedly carrying 295 passengers, has crashed in the Ukraine.
Malaysian passenger plane carrying 295 passengers crashes in Ukraine
The Boeing came down near the Russian border. It was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

The Interfax News Agency has claimed the plane 'was shot down at altitude'.

The incident comes just hours after Ukraine's Security Council claimed one of their air force jets was shot down by a missile fired from a Russian plane.

The pilot of the Sukhoi-25 jet was forced to bail out after his plane was hit, said spokesman Andrei Lysenko.

A Ukrainian Interior Ministry adviser confirmed that 295 people died in the Malaysian airliner crash.

It is Malaysia Airline's second major tragedy this year after flight MH370 disappeared in March.

There's incidents that make me wonder whether Franz Ferdinand just got shot again and bad things are about to happen. This is one of them.

      RIP to the victims,

      Could be a freak accident.

I really hope they find the box and maybe that will reveal what happened with MH370.

Just got to work and coworker rushes in and asks, "did you hear the news?" Wasn't expecting this.

      Very sad for the victims.

The fact that it's Malaysian Airlines makes it quite eery.

it's "funny" (not in humourous way unfortunately) that you write that. i was reading not long ago an opinon bit about the similarities in global tensions that exist now with those that existed pre WW1.

isht like this worry me that they become convenient excuses to blow stuff up.

nothing good will come from this incident, that's for sure.

I would imagine commercial flights will be steering clear of the area (Eastern Europe) for the foreseeable future.

That's a big damn chunk. And not on fire or smoldering. That's indicative of an in-flight breakup.

Good god I hope it was a quick death for the passengers and they didn't know it was coming

Is Malaysian Airlines publicly traded company? Or is it state owned?

depends. are they going to reroute the flight far away from this area (ie: NOT over a freakin warzone)? if yes, giv'r. you KNOW security will be tight as all hell. as an added bonus, lots of empty seats so you can stretch out and you know they'll likely be a bit more liberal with the "refreshments" as a result.

now, if they're still flying over the ukraine, ya, staying home becomes something a bit more logical. even then though, one would assume they're not gonna shoot down another passenger plane in the same spot the next day. lightning striking twice and all.

of course, i write this sitting at my desk at work knowing i'm not flying anywhere in europe/asia in the forseeable future. were i in your shoes, i might be a bit more nervous about it....

Debris field is reportedly over 9 miles wide, which means the flight probably broke up mid air.

What's sad is this was a political move from some side of this conflict. However, the sad thing is I could see both sides doing this. Russian separatists doing it thinking they were targeting a Ukranian Aircraft, or to blame Ukraine. Or the Ukrainians doing this as a "false flag" to blame the Russians and get the world involved.

Either way, I'm sickened by the whole thing.

Does anyone think it was shot down because it was Malaysian Airlines? I'm thinking no and it was just a tragic coincidence.

The question, then, would be what caused the breakup? Structural defect or explosion?
It seems the government is currently saying, "While we're conducting this unspecified, unwarranted surveillance, we're totally thinking about how to not violate the 4th Amendment that we're currently violating. Because terrorism."

I would agree with the coincidence. Unless whomever shot it down was actively tracking it on radar, how could they know it was a MA flight?
