I'm having some issues with my stereo currently. I'm not sure if something is shorting/grounding or a wire is picking up noise from something. It's a stock head unit running a pioneer speakers, and sub. It started with the sub, it would just start thumping for no reason. I started to call it ghost beatin'.

The volume could be all the way down, and it would do random thumps. So I pulled the fuse on it until I could figure it out. Now, when I hit a big bump in the road, or hit the right ride frequency, there are huge pops from the speakers. It does go away if I turn the volume down though.

      It's a 2002 GTI.

Does anyone have any idea what I should be looking for?

Also, where does anyone know where I get the tool to pull the head unit out?

      Edit:

There is this code I got when I pulled codes.

      Address 56: Radio Labels: 3B7-035-1xx-56.lbl
      Part No: 3B7 035 180
      Component: Radio NP2 0005
      Coding: 00031
      Shop #: WSC 00000
      VCID: DDBC17B6573E37F650B-50E6

      1 Fault Found:
      00856 - Radio Antenna
      36-00 - Open Circuit

I have had that code for a long time though, it comes up intermittently.
