Just went there this weekend. Stayed at the marriot in the Quarter.

Went to Jaques imos in uptown. First time I had ever been there and the food was great. Highly recommend it.
Also went to parkway bakery and had poboys and watched some of the Saints game with ~50 other people. It was awesome. The environment, the food, the weather, everything was great.

If you've never been. Drive( or better yet ride the streetcar) down St. Charles. Check out the garden district.

Walk the Quarter. Go to Jackson Square. Go to Cafe Du Monde(Get a table, the "to go" line is always ridiculous, it's cash only at the tables)

The only thing I didn't get to do was go to pat o'briens. I think its on Burbon, looks like a great place

^all good recommendations. For a less crowded alternative to jacques imo's check out Elizabeth's in the bywater.

I'm staying at the Ritz and will have a car. The Ritz seems to be centrally located to everything, so I'll probably be doing a lot of walking. Will definitely check out the Garden District. A friend's parents own a historic house there (the Gilmore-Parker House), so I'm going to get a tour of that. Other than that and dinner at Galatiores (sp?), nothing is set in stone.

      Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

Be sure to hang around the bar one night at the Ritz and catch a Jeremy Davenport set. Drink a cocktail and eye up some sexy old broads.

It's usually a ton of fun. The bar there has a great vibe.

This is how I do New Orleans...

I start the morning with a chicory coffee and beignets, get a hot dog at a place that the name escapes me...then I start the drinking with a nasty daiquiri at one of the daquiri joints followed by a couple of hurricanes at Pat O'Briens and a BIG ASS BEER.
I am usually in the swing of things by this point and don't care where or what I do from there as long as I some how get a dozen grilled and a dozen fresh oysters.

It is also around this time that I come up with what I think is a hilariously snappy reply to the constant ....Betcha I can tell you where you got dem shoes?

I'm sure it's pretty touristy and pedestrian but I have fun time.

All he has to do is request an upgrade of his rental into a S8 and get a metal case too.

So your calorie net gain was somewhere around 3000 after eating in the French Quarter...

I feel like I should reinforce this point. Seriously, VAD, do it.

The soft shell crab is amazing. The Huitres a la Foch (an original recipe) is something you'd never forget.

stayed at the ritz before out there for work, amazing hotel. Beds so soft, I actually slept on the floor the whole time! I can't believe nobody mention going to acme oyster house. Some of the strip clubs are pretty incredible also. Don't forget getting some good benjays at cafe du monde... finish it off with a creepy walk around the old cemeterys

I always see a lot of people talking about Acme Oyster House. Being from NOLA, there are much better places to go, especially if you want oysters. Dragos for starters. Acme has decent food, but its gotten "watered down" over the years. Check out some places local to only New Orleans, Acme has moved all over these days.

Agreed regarding Dragos. I've been to both Acme and Dragos and prefer Dragos hands down.

Other good oyster spots include Superior Seafood on St Charles, Seithers seafood in Harahan, and Cooter Browns in the river bend.

I heard so much about Dragos and have wanted to try it so badly that I ordered one of their oyster kits. Pretty darn good, that butter sauce is like crack.

Hertz. The first two attempts were Foci sedans. The first had a defective fan blower and the second stalled at the exit of the rental facility. So, 500L it was. Proved useful, as we had to stuff a 6th person in the trunk today .

The weather is something I didn't expect. Very pleasant. At Frenchmen St now. This is an awesome scene.

Edit: What color is your M3? Saw a white E36 M3 on Canal St next to the Ritz earlier today.
