      2001 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T, 2005 Jetta TDI
      10-22-2014 10:36 PM #1
This is where I will be posting and keeping track of all my progress/plans/work on my Jetta. It's a 2001 Uni-Black Wolfsburg Edition that I have had for about 8 years now. My dad was the previous owner so it's been in the family its entire life.

There will be no bags or stance or any of that stupid **** in this thread so if that's what you're into, well I don't really care.

      The car

      Engine
      - AWW 1.8T
      - APR stage 1
      - Forge DV
      - Forge TIP
      - 034 PCV hoses
      - Probably some other little things I forgot that don't really matter, it's pretty much stock

      Suspension/Steering
      - KW V1 coilovers
      - R32/TT control arms, spindles, front sway bar
      - R32 steering rack
      - Solid Steering rack bushing

      Transmission
      - 5 speed 02J
      - TT short shifter
      - VR6 clutch and ECS lighter flywheel

      Interior
      - Beige cloth interior
      - Full GLI brushed aluminum trim
      - TT pedals with Beetle S dead pedal
      - Newer style center console with more cupholders

      Exterior
      - GLI front lip and side skirts
      - I have a GLI rear lip sitting in the shop that will be a key component in the AWD conversion
      - Hella GLI tailights
      - Kamei front grille
      - Hood notch filled
      - OEM HID's (replicas ) with glass lenses
      - OEM Australian market headlights covers
      - OEM GLI BBS RC's

      Electrical Stuff
      - CCM upgraded from earlier 1J0 to newer 1C0
      - Full FIS UK sport cluster
      - Power folding mirrors
      - Homelink Visor
      - Pioneer AVIC-X940BT head unit
      - Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp and door speakers (don't remember what these are it was done soooo long ago)
      - mk6 steering wheel (I think its from a Scirocco) retrofitted to work with the Pioneer radio
      - Climatronic swapped
      - Functioning OEM headlight/tailight/brake light monitoring system on the cluster
      - Headlight leveling motors

After dreaming about doing an AWD swap for years, I literally had all of the hard to find R32 parts fall into my lap (thanks to Brian, JettaGetUpAndGo and Andy, milwaukeeandy) and decided I had to do it, there was no other option. All the .:R parts came out of Andy's old car that unfortunately got totaled but it will live on! The front .:R suspension parts I have are also out of his old car (spindles, control arms, swaybar and whatnot). I had no interest in using an R32 or any other V6 engine so I obviously had to find an AWD TT transmission. Not long after purchasing the R32 rear components I found a low mileage AWD 6 speed 02M TT transmission for sale over in Michigan. After about 6 hours of driving and 3 hours of sitting in traffic in the middle of nowhere in Indiana, I finally had everything I needed to start with the swap. My best friend's dad was nice enough to rent me out a HUGE space to work on it too which is awesome. Its pretty much turned into our man cave.

R32 rear differential, haldex controller, subframe, control arms, trailing arms, fuel tank, and AWD TT transmission.

R32 prop shaft and new front axles. I was able to find AWD axles that fit with the older 02J hubs that use an axle nut instead of the bolt that is usually used with the 02M transmissions. Those hubs that use the axle bolt are expensive as **** so I'm really glad I was able to find these axles. I think they came off of the less common 5 speed AWD TT.

I picked up a 2005 TDI Jetta to drive around in the meantime while I was working on the other car. Before starting I changed the timing belt on it, fixed the ebrake cables, threw on the roof rack, and obviously had to install an MFA screen; because how am I supposed to drive a TDI without knowing how many MPG's I'm getting?. Plus, once you have and FIS screen, it really sucks not having one haha.

      The new Daily

      List of things to accomplish:
      1) Finish installing the floor pan
      2) Fabricate a floor extension in the trunk since the Jetta pan is longer
      3) Seam seal and paint everything once installed
      4) Install new 6 speed AWD transmission and new Southbend clutch (this is where things get more fun/less terrifying )
      5) Refresh front axles with new boots and grease
      6) ESP swap
      7) DWA siren
      8) Interior monitoring
      9) Clean up old wiring behind dash
      10) Wire Haldex controller
      11) Run wiring and vacuum line for exhaust flapper solenoid
      12) Reroute amp power wire and boost gauge line
      13) Add terminals in connectors in rain tray for all wiring into the bay then plug the firewall hole
      a) Temperature sensor
      b) Climatronic
      c) Headlight leveling
      d) ESP sensor
      e) DWA siren
      14) Fix driver's side heated seat
      15) Finish mk6 steering wheel retrofit to get the right side steering wheel buttons to function
      16) Wiring for rear view mirror
      17) Footwell lights
      18) Rewire side mirror defrost to be controlled off of the rear defroster switch
      19) Install backup camera in the trunk lid
      20) Run wire to driver's side door for trunk release switch
      21) Get some body work done

The plan is to get the Haldex working 100% stock like and get the Haldex flash from United Motorsports (I think that's the one that has the flash). I did some reading on it the other day and it sounds awesome .

      Time to get to work

Haha you can just stand there and drink my beer and watch like my buddy does .

Progress will be slow at first because since I started renting this space my friend thinks it means I can spend all my time working on his stupid BMW. Only one car fits in there easily so gotta get that out of the way first.... I hate that ****ing car haha .

I can bring beer to share. I'm not a leech lol (And the extra hand offer is legit if needed. Been a while since getting my hands dirty.)

All the parts are from milwaukeeandy's totaled R32, with the exception of the transmission and front axles which are from a TT. The plan is to make it work 100% stock like with the stock Haldex controller and wiring.

Yeah I might just start disassembling the interior first since I don't have to have the car up in the air for that.

Finally got that stupid beamer out of the way so I could get to work.

      Got this ********** out today....

The floorpan in all it's glory...

Just have to cram it in here, can't be too much work right?

Not bad for only a few hours on the first day I could actually work on the car. Aside from fabricating the pan in there it doesn't seem like it's going to be too much work at all, and I've got a guy to help me now who's a skilled welder/fabricator. Just have to take the fuel tank, seats, carpet and some wiring out and its cutting time.

I'll also be thoroughly enjoying the fuel savings in the TDI in the mean time
