Was wondering if someone on here has in wall speakers and could tell me about their experience installing them and living with them. I live in a condo on the bottom floor and my fireplace column is shared with my neighbor above. My concern obviously is with sound transfer and the vibrations. I was looking at getting in wall speakers with an enclosed back to minimize the sound transfer, but now am leaning towards a wall mountable satellite speaker specifically the Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In walls with an integrated enclosure sound better than the backless equivalents, and depending on the manufacturer will transfer very little of the sound into the column. In the price range of the Promonitor 800, you aren't going to find any in-wall speakers that sound nearly as good. You will definitely want a subwoofer if you care about bass at all.

Think I'm going to place an order for a pair of Speakercraft iw7's. As much as I like the Definative's I prefer the look of the in wall.

Do not go with Speakercraft. I almost bought their ceiling speakers till I heard them without a Sub. They sounded hollow to me and too bright. I ended up going with Bowers & Wilkins. I would suggest listening to the speakers without a sub, maybe bring in a couple of your favorite music.

Changed my mind, going with a pair of Sonance VP42. I listened to them at Best Buy this past weekend and was impressed. Did not purchase from Best Buy, found a better deal with a local installer.

If you find the sound is making it to your neighbors, Sonance makes backboxes that can be installed behind those speakers.
