I'm on the verge of new tires and have been going through all the tire threads. My dealer said I needed new tires and reported the following about the ones I have:

      2010 CC, Original Conti tires
      • FRONT TIRES... Abnormally worn and cupped
      • REAR TIRES... Balding on side and chopped

Do you think I need to get a wheel alignment after I get new tires? It seems like the tire shops just stick the tires on the car without doing any sort of alignment.

The whole tire shopping experience is proving far more complicated than it needs to be. Too many choices.

Any advice on the alignment situation?

(also, when I searched this topic, someone mentioned there might be a known alignment issue with the CC??)

      Thanks!

Sorry if this is a stupid question but ....... What should I expect to pay for it? Just a regular alignment for new tires, everything else stock.

      Thanks!!!

These cars are notorious for needing alignments frequently. I was told by the service advisors to rotate the tires every 5k. The CC comes with a slight "race" camber.

^ exactly what they all said.

You need to get alignment at least once a year.

I bought lifetime alignment from firestone, paid $150 for it. I get my alignment set at least once a year.
If you plan on keeping this car then I think lifetime alignment is a good deal

Hey Paul .. I had the same issue with my stock contis!!! although, my rears were fine ... Ditto having regular alignments and rotation, ~ $100 for four wheel alignment is fair and gives you a baseline .. My solution, replace with $100 tires, compensate alignment where needed (will have to do it at an Indy because it will be out of VW spec) and let it ride while you monitor ... So far, with the new alignment I've driven over 5k and all four new tires still look and drive like new .. I'm due for a rotation - got me a floor jack so I can do it whenever, myself! .. Good luck!

Most shops here wanted $90+. I looked over a bunch and found that most local, non-chain shops had coupons on their site. Browse enough local shops until you find a coupon - I got mine earlier this month for $59.99 with coupon (regularly 89.99).

There is this awesome place that does it for $40 no coupon, but they're booked solid each day WITHOUT appointments. Unless you can take a day off, you wont get in. He does all the lowered cars around here. I found that by asking around the local JDM / Honda / Integra peoples (they work on old cars as cheaply as possible ). I know that tidbit might not help, but may get you looking in the right direction.

Yes yes yes! Align once a year. I was an idiot and burned a set of Hankook Ventus V12 because I didn't align my VR6 4motion. This chassis is notorious for needing alignment. Obviously I learned the hard way. What new tires are you looking into? I've got the Conti ExtremeContact DWS and still very pleased after 20k miles on 19" Sagitta wheels.

      WOW! Thanks guys!

I don't think I ever did an alignment and this is what I get for it. FYI - Dealer in Phoenix charges $149 for alignment. Looks like I need to shop around.

Getting tires at Discount Tire because they do free rotations.

      Again, thanks!!
