well i was getting fed up with the horrendous automatic transmission in my 85 300cd and decided i wanted a new daily driver. at my new job we have a guy who buys classic cars and usually knows exactly what we wants and tries to get us to buy them. well 2 days after deciding to sell my mercedes he comes in with this 2002. took it for a spin and fell in love. i fully understand the hype behind these cars. great power out of the little 4cyl and handles extremely well. has typical rear floor rust and quarter rust but im not to concerned about it because my coworker and good friend is very capable at repairing sheetmetal. hes building his 68 2002 into a boosted rocket ship. now i had posted the black 2002 on fb and a buddy of mine tells me he and his friend have a 75 2002 plus crates of spare parts that there looking to unload, and just my luck there interested in doing a straight up trade for my mercedes (i was asking $2100 for it) supposedly the body work has been done on it and its ready for paint but i have yet to see it in person. worst case i part it all out and make back my money and then some. plans with the black 2002 is to do some maintenance and new seals (doors, trunk and sunroof) get the blower motor working, then upgrade brakes, suspension, sway bars, headers and exhaust off my friends orange 2002 and dual weber side drafts. plan with the 75 is to check out its current condition and determine if it worth repainting and rebuilding and hopefully sell for a profit. the 75 trade wont happen for a couple weeks because we lost the title to my mercedes will keep this thread updated as it all comes together.

Nice!! Welcome to the club! Let me know if you need any suggestions for parts, upgrades, etc. I'm happy to help.

And if that parts car has a good hood... I'm looking for one.

Round tail 2002's are on the move upward. Hard to find one in good shape these days - the bargains are drying up.

Giving up on the 300CD already? At least it sounds like it's going to a good home. Interested in what will unfold with your 2002(s). Congrats.

Personally, I have no problem with that transmission (when working properly, that is). But, you're dead-on correct about the aftermarket for that car. There's plenty of community support, and replacement parts of varying quality, but no real aftermarket support for the W123.

In my experience this usually means someone squirted primer on the car at some point and the car still needs 80 hours of body work before being ready to spray.

      Good luck with them.

Hah, so true. "Ready for paint (as long as you're willing to paint over the rust, bird ****, road grime and leaves underneath the primer)!"

Good luck with the projects, OP.

Congrats! Finally decided to tear into my '74 last week. Much like you, I couldn't wipe the grin off my face after the first few minutes of the test drive, while its not the fastest, its a complete blast to drive.
