This is a very clean truck. I am jelly.

For the above posts, here is a reference of the turbo version http://santafe.craigslist.org/cto/4931160296.html

I know all about the turbo trucks....
Knew a retired Toyota tech that basically had a full time job converting them back to non-turbo at his house garage- back in the mid 90s.
The turbo was an expensive repair when it went.

The Turbo said "TURBO" on the tach where that one says "X1000 RPM".

The spinning tires while stationary for a second was typical hollywood bs.
Had nothing to do with the performance or capabilities of the vehicle shown.
So you didn't take issue with a time traveling Delorean but the tire spinning Toyota bothered you?

The most common axle ratio for 1985 4x4s was 4:10, the reverse gear is about 4:1. With that gearing spinning the tires from a stop with an empty bed isn't really difficult.

My old 1989 Toyota with 33" tires would spin if you were brutal with the clutch. It had 5:29 gears in it but the larger tires brought it down to similar overall gearing.

      $5200
Sounds like a lot of money and a lot of work for a Home Depot/Dump-run truck. If you can't see daylight through the bed, I'd leave it alone. For anything north of D.C., finding an '85 Toyota at all is near impossible, but I guess that's why you have to go to Montana.

Good luck. Oh, and chrome wheels are period correct.

      Nope!

I checked some shipping options and it is safe to say I could drive it back and replace the engine on the way home for the cost of shipping.

It looks like I'm going to fly out to Spokane with my wife at the end of April and meet the previous owner who lives in Thompson Falls MT. From there we will spend a few days touring around in the Rockies seeing some sites and eventually make our way to Denver. From there my wife will catch a flight back home and I'll finish the drive trough the Central Plains and back to the southeast on my own. It should be interesting.

I've got a 1st gen Colorado 4x4 ext cab with the 2.8 and offroad package. Awesome daily. Small enough to putt around the city, large enough to do the tasks I need it to do. It's my daily driver now as I sold my car before I got it. Don't expect top-notch quality in one though.
      Easy like Sunday Morning.

The 22Re is an awesome engine. You will get used to valve adjustments though.

The journey has begun to pick this thing up and so far it has been a pain. The previous owner agreed to meet me in Missoula MT so I had a flight with two connections to get me there. Atlanta > Baltimore > Minneapolis > Missoula. Somehow Delta always seems to screw things up. The flight leaving Baltimore was late so we missed our connecting flight and had to spend the night in Minneapolis. We are now waiting on a flight into Kalispell MT where the previous owner will meet me with the truck.

If Delta can keep it together I should be shredding around the Rockies with 114hp by early afternoon. Pics to follow.

Might want to lower that number a little as you climb mountains and whatnot.

Well I finally got my hands on it. Our flight left about 20 minutes late but landed on time and the previous owner was at the airport waiting for me. After a quick handoff and setting up some stuff in the cab we were off to Glacier National Park. The weather wasn't the best today and most of the park roads are still closed due to snow but it was still a good trip. The truck is as it was described in the auction and drives great. It has a recent exhaust system that is quiet under power with no drone but still gives a little burble and occasional pop on deceleration. It shifts and steers fine, the ride is a little rough but this is the first solid axle Toyota I've driven so maybe that is normal.

Unfortunately I didn't have a pistol and 900 rounds of ammo so I couldn't dispatch these vermin. Maybe next time.

Tomorrow will be the first big milage day heading south and we aren't quite sure where we will end up. Most likely somewhere near Yellowstone.

Today we covered about 450 miles from Whitefish Lake MT, briefly into Idaho, and then to West Yellowstone MT. After checking into a hotel in West Yellowstone we ventured into the park and into Wyoming. Most of the park is still closed due to snow and road maintenance but we got a little taste of it. Other than being a little gutless climbing grades the truck was flawless all day.

We hit a little snow in the Flathead National Forest and it really started coming down near Ovando MT. No accumulation on the roads.
