New to this board but been around the forum scene, mostly BMW's for 13 years now. I'm 36 years old and my wife and I bought my 37th (!) car, a 2012 GLI Autobahn. I was drunk eBaying one night and made a pretty low offer on this and woke up the next morning, not believing I'd just bought it! Once she arrived via a truck from VA, I knew right away something was wrong as it was nearly impossible to get into gear. To make a long story short, the car was traded in at a CarMax in VA needing a clutch when the dealer I got it from snatched it up for cheap I'd guess, and put a clutch in it. Turns out the shifter cables just needed to be adjusted, which the dealer covered the cost for!
Luckily I purchased an extended warranty through USAA as a CEL revealed a cracked intercooler and faulty throttle body, both covered. She's running like a champ now!
The day I got her, pictured with my 4 year-old son Tripp and 1 year-old Wit:
I usually go bat-**** crazy with mods on my cars, but have two other German sisters that keep me busy, my project 1990 560 SEC Euro:
And my wife's DD, an E55 AMG wagon that makes 509whp/549wtq and has a mod list that's way too long to list here:
And a few of my past cars, you know, just because:
...anyway, enough about previous cars, back to the GLI! As I was saying, I usually go bat**** crazy with mods, but don't anticipate that happening with this one, what with a warranty and two kids in private school, LOL. I started with a pair of Helix lights:
Then added a 1/4" red vinyl strip to the lower grille portion:
Finally added a set of H&R Super Sports to the stock shocks and was amazed that the ride actually improved. I've never had good luck with lowering springs on stock shocks but this car rides like a champ! Coils might be in the future, but this will do for now:
Wheels will be in next week so I'll report back, but this will definitely be a mild build, so keep a lookise. Thanks for your time!
