Thread: jetta engine swap into an Audi question

    1. 07-07-2015 11:40 PM #1
I've got an 03 A4 1.8T with a cracked block. Head is good. They say it's an AMB
I've got an 03 Jetta 2.0 with a good motor left over from a project for my daughter.

Can I use the block from the 03 Jetta with the 1.8T head, turbo, etc in the A4? I'm trying to get this Audi on the road as economically as possible.
      Both cars are automatics.

      Thanks !!

You'd need custom 2.0L 20V pistons with a CR of 9.5 or less, but keeping it 20V turbo while bumping displacement from 1.8L to 2.0L is doable. I wouldn't downgrade to the naturally aspirated Jetta 2L 8V engine, but even that's possible. That said, for the stated purpose, probably better to just find a good used 06B series 1.8T engine or short-block of similar vintage/configuration and be done with it.
