I have seen this question — and asked it myself several years ago — so just in case the answer has changed:

Has anyone ever found a hitch mount that works on the '07-'08 Passat Wagons with the VR6 engines (and in this case, 4motion)? I recall it had something to do with the dual exhaust or ...

I think I found one made in Amsterdam that cost a small fortune, but I can't even find record of that now.

I have the factory Euro VW hitch. Unfortunately I cannot remember if it's made by Bosal, Westfalia or another brand, but it looks very similar to the one from jddaigle's link. I have also retrofit all the factory Euro wiring and it works awesome. It told me I had a bulb out on my trailer, turns off the motors for the powered hatch, turns off the PDC and puts the rear view camera into "trailer mode" so you can back the car up and line the ball up with the trailer "tongue". I made an adapter wiring harness that converts the Euro 13 pin electrical to 7 pin north american spade-plug. This summer I borrowed a utility trailer to remove a bunch of bricks from my yard. I didn't realize how heavy they were but when I got to the dump they were over 1500 kg (3300 pounds)!!! The manual that comes with the towbar said 2200kg, so I was under the limit, but I really wouldn't tow that much that often, and I really wouldn't want to go over 1500kg. Towing 1500-2000 pound loads it is fantastic though.

Any way, very long winded way to say if you can, get the Westfalia one, just be aware it's only a ball, not a normal 1 1/4" or 2" hitch that you can install a normal bike rack on. Of course there are euro options for the bike rack too (they are so much cooler than what you can get in north america):

Wow! That is an impressive rig! I only want it for carrying a bike. I have a Dutch bike that is nearly 50lbs and I am thinking about adding a motor, so it is only going to get heavier. Thule has added a hitch mount bike rack for heavy bikes (like e-bikes), but it requires a hitch. Any European options you can share? I imported my bike from the Netherlands, why not bring over an uber-cool rack?

Hey SUVAGEN, have a look on eBay.co.uk for Thule "towbar bike racks" like this one:

      http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thule-916-...AAAOSwZkJURjYS

If you go to Thule's website for the UK you can see all of their offerings:

      http://www.thule.com/en/gb/products/...-bike-carriers

I would specifically look into the 916 as it has a 60kg total capacity:

      http://www.thule.com/en/gb/products/...r-916-_-916000

That may be overkill if you are just carrying one bike (even if it's a heavy bike), so maybe have a look at their other racks too. The great thing about these racks is that they pivots down while the bikes are loaded so you can still get into the hatch!

In terms of the actual towbar itself have a look here:

      http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westfalia-...MAAOSwHjNV8VVf

I hope that helps!! I absolutely love my set up.

I have a 2007 Passat Wagon, 3.6, 4Motion, with parking sensors, rearview camera and RNS-510 navigation. I got a trailer hitch from SRG Attache Remorque in Canada and installed the Tow Ready 118530 harness. It's a simple plug and play harness that doesn't require programming on the car computer. I think it's all you need if you want to tow light trailers without brakes.

What is SRG in Canada? I am in the U.S. and don't know what that stands for. I don't want to do any towing; I just want to use a hitch mount bike rack.

Update: I found their website, but when I enter VW->Passat-> and either '4motion' or 'wagon', the years end with 2005. So, I don't find a tow bar for a 2007 or 2008 4motion wagon. What did you install?

Thank you! How did you figure out that a hitch labeled for the 2010 Passat would work on the 2007-8 V6 4motion wagon?

2006 to 2010 are the same. They have the same part number. You can check on SRG website.

Yeah, looks like it timed out... For the price I think I am going to bite the bullet and get it.

Shipping to the US was listed as 39 Euro... So very reasonable.

I've owned this car a little over a year and have put 35K miles on it. And I love it more every day. I will post again here when I get the hitch and if it works.

Is it the westfalia (sp?) unit? I'm very curious how it works out for you. I've just read on Passat world that the hitch mount size may be odd, and you may need a spacer. Did you read that as well?

The one in the link fit the r36 estate and saloon... It was not a Westfalia.

I found it by typing in the product code. I see its one of those European style units that has a set ball size. I don't think a bike rack or crate carrier can be mounted on that. I'm following up with SRG as I'm in Canada (ON). Will post when I get their reply.

I hadn't decided whether I was going to leave that on for the true euro aspect or have it cut off and a square tube welded on for swapable items..
