Pedestrian impact regulations. It needs a blunt front end to meet those regs, and most will have a front plate there.

One of the reasons it was probably done like this was for cost savings.

Of course, but that doesn't make it better, just different

A 911 doesn't need that so neither should this car.

Im glad I didn't reserve, I'd not go through with the purchase anyhow. It's fine, better than expected, but not what I want and I'm not ready to plug in a car yet.

Not a hatchback - there's no cut-line in the glass that would allow it.

Put down deposit. Budgeting $45-50,000 since I will want a performance version. No mention if the base is fwd, or rwd. If rwd is standard I will get that if not I will get a D.

Sooooooooo stoked first new car ever. Going to save up 50% and finance the rest.

Judging from the red car, the glass is fixed and the trunk opening is more Vertical than horizontal.

There's a cut line in the C pillar just above where the small window ends, and the cut line continues the top line of the windows down to the top of the taillights. And it's visible above the rear bumper. That's the trunk opening. The hinges are probably underneath the area that is the continuation of the C-pillar.

Standard RWD, optional AWD. Air suspension is optional.

This is the day everything changed. It is rare that a event is so hyped, and then delivers so thoroughly.

I think the front end looks a little weird. I know electric cars don't need a grill, but it looks sort of strange with nothing up there. That's the same reason I don't like the Model X front end much.

I also don't love the spartan interior.

I do like the overall proportions.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out after the big delays in the Model X. I thought GM might have a slam-dunk over Tesla because the Bolt could be on the scene as a real, available car well before the Tesla. But, the Tesla will probably have more cachet.

eh, i dont DISLIKE it, and it will be wildly successful, but i can't say i'm floored by it.

hopefully they spruce up that interior. i just can't imagine myself driving a car with no gauges or anything, and only a big ass iPad in the middle.

Absolutely love the design, the glass, the hatch, the interior/clean dash/touchscreen. It's pretty much perfect as-is.
Assuming supercharging is standard, the only option I'd want is autopilot.
Looks so meh....I'm sure the tech is amazing, but I don't like it. It's like a smooshed up Model S....

We think this is what we're going to to and it will totally be out in just over a year!

I need to get in on those internet betting sites and get in on whether or not it makes its release date. I'm siding with no.

      Close enough. But not 100%.

The DOT is going to want markings on the controls for turn signals / wipers / lights, and there are none visible and you can't do stuff like that through the touch screen. Selecting whether one wants to go forwards or backwards or park isn't a good thing to do via touch screen, either, although I wouldn't put it past Tesla to try.

The filled-in cupholder openings don't make any sense. If those are flip-down covers of some sort, that's unnecessary cost and complication.

Vent openings are probably in that lip that goes all the way across the top of the dash.

It will be pretty close to this.

Well yeah, it's a prototype. And the gear selector is one of the stalks coming off the steering wheel.
