At last. At long last here it is. The fabled Hella Supertone Horn install. This install will work on the air horns as well. Another thing i have noticed is that you dont need that relay that comes with it. You can use it if you so desire, but I didnt and it worked out fine for me.First, take off the front bumper. You must first remove the grill to get to the torx screws needed to remove the bumper. It is suggested that you have someone work with you to put the bumper back on. It is extremely difficult to do this by yourself. I couldnt get the pic to scan, but the screws are large and flat black. They are easy to see and you will want to have some metric allen wrenches on hand to take them off.

Secondly, locate the horns and the wires running to them.

Here is where things become tricky. You can either splice into the horns with some 18guage splicers, a splicing stool/crimp and some 18guage wire (all purchased at Radio Shack)or you can do what i did and just cut the wires then wire them directly to the horn. I recommend you cut the wires and splice them, then crimp them to some 18guage plugs and then plug those directly with the horns. This is how i redid mine (not pictured). The pic below shows my infamous rigging skills held down by the 18guage plugs.

Here's a better pic of the 18guage plugs:
(Dont be fooled by the open endedness of them. I cut them to better hold down the wires; like i stated earlier, just plug the wire into them and use the crimping tool to hold them in)
The horns dont exactly say which wires go where, so what you do is plug the wires in and honk the horn. If it doesnt sound right, then switch the wires and try again. One of the ways is the correct one. Generally, the loudest and richest tone is the one you are looking for.If you are using the supertone horns, then find some way of bending the brackets it comes with so that the horns are facing forward. I took mine off and the horns are now facing the ground. Also, if you purcase enough 18guage wire, then you can mount the horns somewhere else like behind the grill, but you run the risk of water damage as they will be more suseptible to natures elements like rain/hail/snow.
When you are finished, make sure that you work in perfect backwardness and reassemble the car's front end. Dont be stupid like me and do this on a cold day as you will neglect some things for later. Case in point: I now have a gap where the front fender liner used to be as i didnt put the screws back and it kept flapping against the tire on the highway.
Here is/was my finished product.

i have experienced the wrath of fairfax vw (i bought my 2002 jetta from them). i posted a story on the page i linked to at the bottom. basically, the mosoon sound system wasn't working right and they told me to just adjust the balance all the way to the right to fix it. you gotta love them...
