actually, true, you are a bit nutty to do that much work for that car, but that's why it's your money and time, not mine.

      I have a '62 Continental sedan.

LOL, it's not as much as I thought it was going to be actually. For the same price you can have a beat down late 2000's Honda or Toyota.

Those body style Continental's are beautiful!

      Update:

She's out to sea as of today!

      ETA is July 6th.

Also, over the past couple weeks I have spent WAY too much time and money browsing the Japanese Yahoo Auctions. I highly recommend www.jauce.com for an auction agent.

      Here's what I picked up:

A Gloria GTSV Headlight and Grille, and rear trunk emblem (since I'm now finding that most of these parts are dirt cheap, I am collecting the parts for a Gloria conversion)

A very rare set of the clear front turn signal lenses

A left side corner lens - the seller told me there was a hairline crack on the lens that's on the car

I was able to find the missing center vent assembly, and I found the outer driver side vent too - the picture is missing on the auction

I also found lots of 1/24 models of the Cedric that I picked up too. It's been lots of years since I've built anything

Is the inner part of the headlamp the high beam? Something I've wondered on the Euro LS400, it had lower fog-lights, but the USDM version did not. It had yellow inner fog lights. So what did the inner part of the lights do on the Euro LS400? I am assuming it was turned into a high-beam for the Euro market?

Okay, now you have me pining for a Hilux Surf... and missing my dearly departed 2nd Gen 4Runner...

I have to know, though: How do insure one of these things, and since you live in VA, how would they assess the car for your taxes?

You insure it through an insurance company.

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood what you were asking

There are no special hoops to jump through to insure an import, if thats what you meant.

That is what I meant. The next question is what the hell would I have to do to get the People's Republic of Maryland to title and tag this beast...

I'm half tempted to call my State Farm agent on Tuesday morning and find out what it would cost to add a 25+ year old Toyota truck that was never sold in this country to my policy just for his reaction...

I bet if you wrapped it in mail truck livery people would stop asking. Might as well try, you know, for science.

That sounds right, I'm not too sure about the EDM Celsiors though.

Correct, I just called up my insurance company (Geico is one of the few major insurance companies that do this BTW) and told them what I was doing and both of the people I talked to were very excited, and thought it was neat that I was doing that. If I added the Cedric with just liability, it's the same as any old car. It only increases my payment by $15-$20 a month.

Thank you very much. I just hope I can help everyone else live their RHD dream as I have.

I'm sure since my car is blue it's not going to help it any. I'll just go ahead and get the U.S. MAIL vinyl letters ready for the back window when she comes in!

I've been keeping a close eye on this thread, since I'd like the next car I buy to be an R32 Skyline GTS coupe (that'd be the slow, RWD, cheap one) but since I don't usually have a ton of time to devote to figuring out the import process, I'll probably just wimp out and buy one that's already been imported by one of the numerous JDM specialist dealers.

Also house shopping, ATM. That'll put a damper on car stuff as well

Also, It's hard to argue with that awesome B-Pillarless (is that even a word? ) look.

Check out this video of how the windows roll down. It's a Y30 but the same setup:

Totally missed this detail the first time around. Four door hardtop!!

I think the last domestic 4D hardtop died in the late '70s. How long did the Japanese keep this going? Not just frameless windows and thin pillars, but actually pillarless?

huh... that's an odd duck to pick.

at least they're plentiful, having been made until 2015 (as taxis)
I wonder how much different that sedan is from the hard top.

I preferred the A31 Cefiro myself

Is that the only instance of a LHD RB?

Finally found a nice write-up googling.

      http://ateupwithmotor.com/model-hist...tops/view-all/

As far as we’ve been able to determine, the T180 Carina ED and Corona EXiV were the last new pillarless four-door hardtops to be launched in Japan. While the popularity of the style had not diminished, achieving it while maintaining an acceptable level of structural rigidity — to say nothing of collision protection — had never been easy and was getting harder as safety regulations became more stringent. As a result, a growing number of these cars were now pillared hardtops.
      Extra Impressive,

but I think I want a Mazda Persona,

      Frameless, but pillared.

I don't know why people call that a "four door hardtop." Is every Subaru sedan pre-08 a "hardtop?"

Nice car! I can't believe I didn't find your thread until now. About the whole JDM attention thing, I specifically want a daily-driver-sleeper and don't want it to be noticed. If I get a RHD car imported, I plan to tint the glass so that it doesn't draw attention. There would be a line of car thieves around the block if they knew. The reason I want to get the Aristo is because you can get parts for it here. If I bought a Skyline, what would I do when it breaks? The Yahoo auction site you linked to looks cool but I can't imagine it's quick or cheap like RockAuto.com.

The biggest problem right now is that I can't even find any 1991 Aristo's. Every day that passes brings us closer to the 1992 RX7 too. That's just financial suicide of course but it is tempting.
