Thread: What did you do to your SportWagen today?

    1. 05-24-2016 09:55 PM #1
Seen these type of threads on many forums. Figured we should have one for the GSW. I know there's a thread in the Jetta wagon section, it just seems right that we should have our own.

      Just for fun.

How hard was that? I bought it, but it's been sitting in my garage for months now.

I did this yesterday as well, along with Lamin-X door cup film.

The sill protectors were pretty easy, I thought - much more so than the 20+ steps of the instructions would imply. Just make sure the area is clean, and work plane-by-plane: the top, then the first vertical, then the next lip, then the next vertical, etc. It's sort of spelled out in the instructions but I found you really have to rub one plane for a bit to get it to adhere, before moving on. Once you know that - cake. The film was very forgiving. Much easier than the damn door cups.

      Added wheel spacers.

I want those cups and sill protectors but I don't think I have the patience. Thanks for posting about the work involved.

Looking good! What size? Any rubbing issues? Did you have to do the fender screw mod?

I haven't noticed any rubbing and no I haven't done the fender screw mod. However I am a little worried about the rear. It's really really close to the inside wheel liner. I'm gonna raise it about half an inch this weekend to give me some breathing room. I am loving the way it looks though.

13mm spacer in the back 10mm in the front (H&R). The wheels are 18s, 8 inch wide 45mm offset. Tires are 225/40

Yeah the look is really good in my opinion. Thanks for the specs.

I'm old school and I actually like the California rake. Looking forward to seeing it after you raise the rear.

      Cheers.

Any pics? What made the install a pain? I've been thinking about ordering some.

Ha! They were a pain! I had trouble with the gas & dead pedal.

They were just hard to slip on. I did some reading on the dead pedal in the gti forum.

Were they OEM? I bought some cheap eBay knock offs and the gas pedal was a pita. I just figured low quality/fit was the problem.

any side shots? Is this posted in any of the wheel/suspension threads?

I've posted in the wheel and suspension thread. But not with the spacers. few more shots here.

What tint do you have? It doesn't look too dark. I'm thinking of getting some but most people have it heavily tinted or two different tints on the front & back. I'm looking for a light tint all the way around

I got them from Aliexpress. I don't think quality was the issue. It's a pain to put on because they need to make sure it doesn't come off when you're driving

Put on the blue tinted aspherical side mirrors I got from BECAutoparts. I'm hoping it will help with blind spots. Went on a long highway drive last weekend and I couldn't get the mirrors set to my liking.

Next up is installing the Curt hitch and door cups (whenever they arrive)

50% in the front 35% in the rear. That's the darkest I can go in VA. It's 3M.

What size spacers? Fitment looks perfect.

    21. 05-27-2016 06:30 PM #21
Installed a Curt trailer hitch and VW splash guards for the rear fenders. The fronts will have to wait until the weather clears up.

I like the Curt hitch because there isn't any cutting of the bumper needed and it's plenty strong for my purposes (pulling a very small trailer). However...

I wish Curt would listen to their customers. The bolt holes still don't line up. I had to grind out about 1/4" of three bolt holes to get the bolts into the crash bar mounting points.

      Pete

What trim level is your gsw? Did you have any trouble with the parking sensors?
I would love photos if you have any.
