It's nice. Not thrilling but nice.

...Hey, that reminds me of something:
You think you hate it now, but wait 'til you drive it.

Wow, the sheer amount of VW hatred in this forum is just incredible sometimes. Jesus people, calm down.

I think it actually looks great. A whole lot better than I was thinking it was going to be. Its exactly what VW needs right now, and seems like it may be pretty competitive, as long as the price is right.

When the Pathfinder lease is up I wouldn't mind my wife picking up one of these.

But all of this hate simply because it's a VW is pretty ridiculous. Honestly, show me ONE 3-row crossover here in the US that DOESN'T look like a boring grocery-getter. Good luck with that. At least the Atlas has some decently masculine lines and a cool name.

I don't think the 4.2 has ever been packaged for a transverse application, has it? MQB is transverse only.

I think the new GMC Acadia looks better than this. What's the VW do that an Acadia doesn't?

The VW is 5" longer so it's presumably bigger inside.

There was no way this was every going to get a V8 anyway.

Looks pretty much like a VW JGC to me. Not great, not bad, but just okay.

The really odd thing is that this sign actually has mountains behind it, but they are green instead of brown. It also has a nice river and a bridge. Don't know why they felt the need to make it look like arid western mountains. They used the same background on the Passat press images.

Tennessee also doesn't require a front plate

Would have to wait for official specs to confirm this, but I bet space and versatility.

But really, which midsize SUV does things that other competitors doesn't? It's a sea of blandness.....

The only one that I believe stands out from the crowd is the CX-9. It's definitively the enthusiast of the 3 row SUV's, beautifully designed and with the better handling, but it does not sell because this is not a enthusiast segment. It's a soccer mom segment, that probably prefers the ability to fold the rear seats with a child seat installed over having Nurburgring agility.

VW at least seems to focus on things that the consumers want from this king of vehicle. It should have more flare in the design, and a little bump in HP from the V6 wouldn't hurt, but overall it seems a decent product.

Styling that hampers practicality is one reason Mazdas sell so poorly.

The VR6 sits really low in the engine bay. Good for handling but not so great for the DYI mechanics.

Two things no buyer in this segment cares about.

It's actually the 2.3 from the MKC, Mustang, and Focus RS (at the lower, MKC tune level), which is why it's an upgrade from the base 3.5 V6.

You could get a 2.0 Explorer before the '16 refresh, and that's the one that was FWD-only.

I actually really like this thing.

The key is pricing. IF VW can keep it roughly in line with the new Mazda CX-9, I think that it's a big winner.

But if this thing is close to Touareg territory, then it's going to be another niche product. We'll see.

      This really looks great.

      Also love the interior.

Do not like the bumps over the wheel arches. And the design looks pretty blocky. This isn't one of VW's better designs.

VR6 3.6L with 4motion in that boat? So, 15mpg combined on a good day?

It should be lighter than the Gen2 Touareg, so 17mpg combined.

No idea where that picture was taken, but I guess they thought "Chattanooga has mountains...hmmm, this backdrop will do!"

Wow, looks terrible. And how are they not putting the virtual cockpit in their new flagship SUV? The Passat gets it in Europe...
