Chatted with my LS guy again at work. Said my sewing machine tappa tappa is normal lifter noise on an LS when cold.

Shifting when cold is funny. I shift with fingertip pressure at all times. Today when the car was dead cold and soaking wet, I pulled the shifter with a little authority from 1-2 and it slid in like butter. Gentle? It hung up and was reluctant.

Almost all of the manuals I've ever owned have shifted poorly into second when cold, so now I'm thinking it's me and not the cars.

Yep, the LS likes to click when it's cold. Even the truck engines do this. It gets more noticeable with mileage. I can't help you with your shifting techniques, though I've been told it's better on the transmission and clutch to shift quick, and shift with a bit of force. Comfort be damned, a quick in and out of the clutch, even if it's abrupt, will save it in the long run. It's not bad on the transmission unless you're actually grinding gears. Obviously a hard drop of the clutch from a dead stop is going to shorten it's lifespan, I was referring to rolling shifts.

There are quite a few others I know off the top of my head. They'll get here eventually.

I swiftly bring the clutch through the friction point when shifting, but I also time it so I'm pulling the clutch out when the rpms match so it doesn't have a speed mismatch or a load from the engine.

I'll try being more authoritative on the shift into second going to work and see what happens.

I've scheduled to look at the one in Burlington on Saturday morning if it doesn't sell.

Geoff - might be messaging you Sunday since I work Saturday.

      Dude. You're serial?

Oh, and I'm in Cincinnati with the SS. There is a forum member from Dayton with a Regal Peacock - paging that guy.

We'll see. The wagon is allegedly still worth ~$18k so i would actually have a smaller payment swapping cars.

Car clicked into second just fine when I moved the shifter with more zazz. Guess old baby fingers shifting isn't the way to go with this Tremec.

I made sure to do some forceful shifts during unnecessary spirited highway acceleration today, just for you guise.

I don't even think I make it out of 4th on my trip to or from work until the last mile or two due to people doing 30 in a 45 with NO ONE in front of them. Beyond irritating.
