While speaking to the tuner, we came up with proposing at minimum, the ability to flash to stock, which would still be nice. The tuner will float the idea to them. As far as adjusting octane, boost, launch, that's more at the ready as you guys have said.

i read your post again, so if i am understanding correctly the RED file that UM used to have was not set at some peak PSI. it was also adjustable between 28-30 somewhere based on what the customer wanted? I always thought RED file was a certain PSI number associated with it. like 30 or 29. not adjustable from 28-30. anyone else chime in

Was dependent on elevation. So it was confusing. Not sure if he meant shops would tune accordingly...

I was under the impression old files were a set boost level, new files aren't hence the whole "user adjustable settings" theme

One of the bolts that connects the turbo to the turbo housing on the boss 500 kit wasn't tightened down properly, over time it walked it's way out and was leaking from right out of the turbo. The original shop I took it to for install clocked it and didn't tighten it back up, it was on the bottom so it was a pain to get to.

I have the UM tune on my TT-RS. 034 intake, 034 downpipe, no cats. No problem passing the emission test.

It could be worse- you could be in California like me. Such a commie state. I've got 6 years to enjoy a tune before I have to switch back prior to smog.

If your in mass you can just buy a Neuspeed or AWE downpipe and pass no problem a
      Even at stage 2

No problem and in mass you can have one thing fail and still pass so if you don't get one of the above Dow pipes what you can do is flash back to stage 1 and it will pass inspection that way too but then you would have to flash back to stage 2 after

Yes sir. Texas. I pulled in......they hooked it up to the computer. 10 minutes later I was pulling out. Passed I drove from the Dallas Ft. Worth area all the way down to Houston to get this tune. No regrets. Let me say that the ride back was fun. I know this is the MK7 R forum and this is about the UM tune on that specific car so its apples to oranges........but I haven't had 1 problem with it since I voided the warranty almost 2 years ago.

Im going with Um tune but my question is ,What boost pressure are most of you using for launch control and what is the "best" boost for times ? I know there are other factors to put into play (tires, track conditions ...).

A UM tune alone will not affect your ability to pass emissions. Unless you start changing physical parts like intake, downpipe, turbo etc, you're good. Neuspeed is the only intake that has emissions certification and no aftermarket downpipe will pass unless the inspection is not thorough on the visual.

If you have the UM tune and no cats, along with a aftermarket intake........as long as you tell UM you have no cats....you will get the appropriate tune to nip that in the bud. Like I stated in a earlier post.....I had no cats with the UM tune and passed with flying colors. Just saying. Neuspeed has an emission certification (intake) for use on a otherwise stock car. Its nothing special.

It was like that on my MK6 Golf R, My 2012 TT-RS and I'm pretty sure the MK7 Golf R is the same when it comes to the UM tune.

The fun never ends... Drove from Reno to Berkeley to get tuned then found out that the shop that installed my turbo kit didn't adjust the waste gate during install, so the car keeps throwing epc and going into limp mode, good thing is once it is taken care of the tune will run fine.

I'd say a big turbo kit is always worth the troubles however you know what they say, if you want it done right you do it yourself... I'd be furious if some shop butchered my install
