Good buy if cheaper than the Golf R (which I think it will be) since it is FWD.

My money would still be on the Focus RS, doe.

This thing-- red trim all 'round the bumpers + side skirts. Red lip on the wheels Wide expanses of faux mesh plastic on the bumpers, vents that look tacked on. It looks overtly pre-accessorized from the factory. Shame cause it's likely a fantastic drive as well as reliable.

The only thing it's missing is red underglow.
When you be veetack it will glow red.

I wonder how much more power Honda can get out of this engine. I could forsee a ILX-type S with a detuned version of this...and maybe a TLX-type S with an uprated version.

I wish I liked the new hatch, I really do. This just seems a little too extreme for me. I do love the new sedan though.

All this whinging about it's look is making me want to do a Venn diagram of the people who complain that the Civic looks overdone and also think the Golf R looks too normal.

You know what, if this was on a slower car, you guys might have had a point. Unfortunately for you guys, this car can do all the things that the little bobbles and bingles "hint" at i.e. beat any other car in the $30-$40k price range on the track and then some. So beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but rice is what ya'll got stuck in your nether regions.

This is the kind of car that wears ugly like a badge of honor.

I'm sure a 4-into-3 exhaust makes a lot of sense from a airflow perspective.

So, just think when you 'chip' it

I think they made the back end ugly just to rub it in when you get beat by one.

I'm afraid if I ever drove one I would absolutely love it . I hope it does really well, really I do. I want Honda to be great again. I think the Type R actually looks better than the regular hatch.

Looks much better in Red than the white.

Also black will probably be the best color since it will hide all the awkwardness.

It's not just about being a hoon on city streets, it's about high-speed stability. The underbody aero is going to stick this thing to the ground at high speeds, and this is a car you want to be stable at high speeds. Many ITRs were wrecked from lift-throttle oversteer and this will be no different.
As I stated earlier - if you're actually tracking the car, great. The aerodynamic bodywork likely will be useful. If you only own the CTR to hoon around the city to impress your friends (as many will) no amount of "aero" is going to save you from your own stupidity if something unexpected happens. This is true of any car, beautiful or ugly. Thus, toning down the body work doesn't make much of a difference.

With this logic, you better hate the GT350, Z28, Z06, and every other car with performance aero on the street. Your use of quotation marks suggests that you're not even sure the aero pieces work. Even on the DC2R the front lip and rear wing were functional.
The cars you mention (including the ITR) manage to pull off functional aerodynamics without looking cartoonish at the same time. Bonus points to them.

In any case, you're far more triggered about this than you should be. I merely suggested that removing the garish wing isn't going to turn it into a death trap around town. Relax.

Only because of the benefit of time. 20 years ago when the Integra Type-R first hit US dealers, that wing on the back was very much made fun of non-stop. Even moreso when it showed up on the Civic Si, which was an even less powerful car that weighed nearly as much as the ITR.

And yes, that was the factory wing for the 99 Si. I'm not here to say the 2017 looks as boring as the Golf R by any means, but the big wings on the ITR & Si were very much well outside the norm when they came out 20 and 18 years ago respectively.

The aero bits on this are functional and also look ridiculous. Some things can't be excused.

Do you have *any* idea what you're talking about? This is a serious question.

This new Type R is clearly widening the scope of what an -R car is, and that's a separate discussion from what people are complaining about here, which is mostly styling. I have an entirely separate bone to pick, which is that the range of capabilities of a Type R is too large now. Entirely a pedantic exercise, but it's what most people are complaining about on venues like Honda Tech and ToV.
      I like you

I didn't think there were any others like me.....all the way down to the new turbo (aka not the glorious non turbo I would love to see again).

I'm of absolutely no doubt that it will be a VERY good, VERY fast, VERY capable car....but it's not likely to be the Type R I fell for. (the looks are fine to me, they serve a purpose, go fast)

I still firmly believe that the original Integra Type R is one of the greatest cars ever engineered, and likely Honda's best (NSX is next, and extremely close).

Autocar is reporting weight will remain similar to current Type R or approx 3040 lbs. Report also states 0-62 in 5.7 seconds.

      -Stupid random exhuast sizes
      -Stupid hood scoop
-4 door hatch instead of a coupe

Local ford dealer had someone trade in a 650 hp Shelby GT500 for a focus RS... they aren't really that available.

It's great if a car looks great and drives great too. If a car performs better than it looks, I can and do forgive it's visual shortcomings for the drive. As much as I love my Fiesta ST, it can be polarizing. My sis digs the car, it's a blast to drive, she hates the looks!

As far as the 2017 Honda Civic Type R goes, remember I'm using the Fiesta ST as a barometer here, Ha! When I saw a picture if the red one ZPayne posted, I thought it wasn't half bad. The bright color brings out nice details around the fake black vents, like the inlets behind the fog lights. Compared to my Fiesta ST, it looks busy and yet purposeful and mean:

About that rear. I want to drive this new Type R in a bad way and I stand behind my statement above, if it drives as well as the hype, then it is better than it's ugly parts. But wow, that rear and wing appendage does push the limit doesn't it? It's the auto equivalent of writing in all caps! You gonna pull up at Aunt Edna's funeral in that thing? Well, I would, Auntie would understand. So relent the argument about the rear. That... that is an ugly thing. Still would drive it, yes, would thank you for not looking at my rear. It's not my fault, Honda made it that way. Parked side by side, my FiST is so subdued.

      [IMG][/IMG]

Funny thing, sis is in the market now for a new car and is looking at the A3 and Lexus IS 350. We talk cars and she made an off comment about how the new Civic didn't look too bad. I'm going to show her this new Type R and hope that she loves it, buys it so I can drive it. Don't judge me.
