I understand wanting to discourage traffic just avoiding the traffic light controlled intersection traffic.. but this just pisses me off since it's the safest access to the parking lot on that side.

      1st look

      Up close.

I've got one. I'll take a photo of it.. later. It actually caught on the transmission skid panel on my Mustang once and brought us to a dead stop. and that car was stock height.

I think it would be a lot of fun to watch the Duke Boys trash their suspension of this baby. Yeeeeeeeee ha!

^^ That looks like an entrance to a high end HOA but how is that seen as a good idea? They could have multiple speed bumps but please just place them a few hundred feet apart.
When I was little, my father was famous, He was the greatest samurai in the empire, And he was the Shogun's decapitator, He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty-one lords, It was a bad time for the empire, The Shogun just stayed inside his castle and he never came out, People said his brain was infected by devils, My father would come home he would forget about the killings, He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him

I want to believe that this is a case of asking the lowest bidder for 5 speed bumps on that particular street.

As someone who owns a company that manages hundreds of high end HOAs, I can tell you that the correlation between good ideas and volunteer board members does not always exist.

600,000 people a year are killed by speed bumps.
Focus ST which stands for Suspension Technologies.

That means it does things magically. In such ways I can not describe, but it is better in every way.

Agreed. Looks to me like a typical speed bump. The only complaint I'd have is that they should paint it and fill the pothole.

I was just in France last week driving through Normandy. They have these pretty popular Euro style speed bumps that raise up like a plateau quite high on the roads that could cause quite a bit of damage if you were a bit unattentive. Quite high I mean they're at least 3 times the height of that speed bump in your photo.

Plus it's a parking lot, where one isn't expected to go fast anyway.

LOL speed bumps. I do not get most of the hate. I get the hate for the ones that are more than 10cm high, but the rest of them....

We have a few in the lot at work. The building manager put them in because people speed in the lot. Every year, people whine and bitch about them. Someone was whining to me about how the bumps where killing their suspension, so I asked, what car do you drive? Some SUV. I started laughing out loud (literally).

Talked to teh building manager, and it turns out that the only people not complaining about the bumps were the two who drive modified (lowered) cars and a couple of the trophy truck guys.

Looks like a lot of the scraping happened in the area of the pothole.

Otherwise it's normal. I don't see it as a discouragement to avoiding the light - I see it as it was meant to be - prevent asshats from ripping along the parking to BEAT the people in line at the light.

We have exposed storm drain pipes along the ocean and a few of the older blocks. And where our street intersect are HUGE dips. Speed bumps got nothing on us!

I appreciate what speed bumps are put in to do - keep speeds down. Sure, they're annoying, but most things put in place to protect us from ***holes is. (airport security, complex P@ssw0rd5!, vehicle safety inspections, etc...)

What I don't like is that if they are installed on say, a 25mph street, you have to slow down to 5-10mph to get over it. Why not make the speed bump a hump so you can go over it at the speed limit?

I think that one in the OP is OK. just fill in that pothole and paint the damn thing.

      edit

I hope those scrapes are from cars ripping through at 30mph.

Seriously, it looks fine to me too.

The only problem I have with it is that it's not painted so it's hard to see if you don't know it's there.

There is no real scale in those pics to judge the speed bump size.
That curb is more of a little wall to keep vehicles from crossing.
      It's a very wide area.
The other speed bumps around back are less than half the size of this one.

here is an aerial view to get a sense of scale- and yes, semi-trailers are sometimes parked back there (which may be why the speed bump is so huge).

Perhaps it needs a banana for scale. It looks normal size to me.
