Thread: How do you replace a Coupe GT vacuum advance?

I just got a nice '87 Coupe GT that has what sounds like classic vacuum advance issues with hesitation approaching 4000 rpms. I checked with a small hose and suction from my mouth and it is not operating so I know it is bad (supposedly they go at about 150-200K miles which is where mine is). I got one that is operating from a parts car but it is still attached to the distributer and I cannot figure out how to remove it - my Audi manuals (Hayes and the "red book") don't address this even though it seems like they should. Sorry to be such a newbie but I don't want to cause more trouble than i need - don't want to mess up the timing, etc. Do I need to take the rotor off and dustcap to remove something (some pins), or is there another trick.
      Thanks for your help.
