Thread: Of their time: Bronze metallic cars

    1. 04-16-2017 11:01 AM #1
Was it more of a 70s or 80s trend? I think it correlates with the trend of golden or bronze plated windows on office buildings in the 70s and the 80s. Here in Europe we have some mid 80s car examples:

I think for cars in Europe it was mostly big in 1981-1985. In the 70s it was non-metallic beige and browns (in addition to greens, yellows and oranges) that were big.
The closest tints today are either too dark/brownish or too gray. Am I the only one who digged that look? I also liked matching velour interiors, it's so 80s and I remember those cars were still everywhere when I was a kid in the 90s. While bronze metallic was of its time, imo it sure has aged better than 90s teal and purple tints (I like them too but they seem to have aged worse). I call it the "yuppie/businessman tint" as it makes cars look more formal than they are and also similar shades were popular for suit coats in the 80s and early 90s in my area.

^ Those (edit: before the simul-post immediately above) are "beige".

This is "bronze". AMC Baja Bronze, to be precise.

Our family had a 1972 Hornet that colour. I remember it being more sparkly and vivid than that photo suggests.

I can hear a heavy 70s bass line play just because you mentioned the words "bronze metallic cars."

Complete the above trifecta. BMW color for this e24 is Bronzit Beige Metallic.

Touareg Hybrids are pretty nice, and the warm fuzzies I felt while driving the hybrid was actually the fingers of all of the German tax payers trying to reach into my wallet to get their money back. (Brendan@bwalkauto)

This was a 2005-only color for T-birds. Code is T2. Ford called it "Bronze".

My wife's X3 is bronze and it's an awesome color that changes depending on the light. While I don't think it would work on every BMW model, I think it's a perfect fit on their SUVs/wagons.

Not our car/model but here's a good pic of the color.

My first car, a 1992 K1500 (5 speed!). My family and I referred to it lovingly as hazelbronzetan.

She had a terrible death at the hands of cash for clunkers after 7 years of faithful service.

So many shades...from metallic beige to metallic brown, with some metallic orange in there. All somehow categorized as "bronze"
