Just a heads up, I don't think the RF is trackable. Something about the roof mechanism being inadequate protection and the impossibility of installing a rollbar. Keep that in mind if you want to track a Miata. Stick with the softtop (since you can get a really nice Blackbird Fabworx bar) if you want to do track days.

Oof. I've seen worse, but that's a pretty nasty hit. 20 years ago that wasn't a total, but nowadays it could be since the repairs are more expensive, including airbags. Here's to totalling it out!

She's not suffering from any sore muscles or anything now? I would've at least expected some discomfort.

She had a sore neck and upper back, and she has a huge bruise from the seatbelt. Aside from that she got away pretty clean.

But I agree that you should do your own research. I just wouldn't want you to rush into the RF (I agree it is STUNNING) but if you want to do track days, it's just not the car for that.

Happy searching, I hope it gets totaled out and you guys can get a new one

I understand the RF probably wouldnt get sanctioned for spec racing but how is it any worse than a ragtop MX5 considering they share the same oem roll hoops?

At the end of the day my track day fantasies will take a backseat to what Lia wants.

Neither the RF nor the stock soft top are safe for track days. They might be "legal" with some event organizers per se, but you don't want to test out those roll hoops.

The difference between the RF and the soft top is that the soft top can have an SCCA legal roll bar installed which pretty much allows you to use it at any track with any sanctioning body and it's legal as well as actually being safe in a rollover.

      Probably not practical.
But it would be nice if they could have added some attachment locations for some type of track day roll protection, even if on the exterior of body (down on lower sides).

I just wish it were possible to get the Abarth 500 engine in the Miata. For some reason, the Miata rear looks very Italian to me.

Somebody's gotta be working on that swap somewhere, I'm sure. Abarth 500 exhaust note, Soul Red Miata GT...I'm not sure I'd need much more in life.

You may be on to something...

Your dead on about the newbie rev hang between shifts, makes skipping gears so annoying. That being said, getting out of the mustang and into the viper (tr6060) back to back, just illuminates all the MT82s faults for me.

If you buy one, buy the spacers we had on it, they are collecting dust

We just waiting on word from the adjuster as to whether its totaled, or its coming back. Then we'll decide how to proceed.

We don't want the car back, I dont think anyone would if it got wrecked to within an inch of its life 500 miles into ownership.
I don't think you're in any danger of having to take that car back.

Car and driver said the airflow in the cabin is obnoxious in the RF, especially at highway speeds. Take a long test drive before committing.
