    whatever one you used for the back will work for the front as long as its 4 wire

    black= Signal
    grey= Ground
    white= +
    white= -

    There is no polarity on the white wires, as they are just for the heater circuit. remember the only purpose of the rear after cat sensor is to verify the cat is functioning properly. You could delete it, but it would probably throw a CEL.

    I know how to wire up the 4 wire, but don't know what is the cheapest way to get a 4 -wire bosch oxygen sensor.


    hence a 3 wire bosch starts at about 40 and can cost like up to 150 for a 3 wire with proprietary plug

    ford oxs 40$ bosch 3 universal 55$ see what I am getting at

    Thanks for this valuable information! I changed my oil, filter, spark plugs, dist cap & rotor and still failed emissions. The CO levels were too high.

    I decided the O2 sensor would be a cheaper fix versus the catalytic converter. I used the 13953 part for $43 at Autozone. I spliced in the old connector from my toasted oxygen sensor. They asked me what the make and model were for the warranty (invalid anyway) and I said it was for an '89 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 liter.

    Sure enough I passed the re-test with flying colors. My CO levels were lower than they've been in years. This was for an '87 GTI 8v CIS-E. You guys saved me a bunch!

    glad to hear, that is why I spend so much time on here posting this info that I know is of very much usefulness and importance. the cis car with cis and cis-e cis-m can very often benefit alot from a o2 sensor change, not just for emissions but also because of lost mileage or in the more extreme but not unlikely drivability issues that can result from a oxygen sensor that is old and is sending signals saying the engien is running much leaner that it really is and causing loss of power, drivability issues etc

    This reply makes me mad, we're getting screwed in Ireland, cheapest bosch universal 02 sensor here is 110euro

    Just to put it straight, 39 dollars is approx 27euro, where as 110euro is 154.60 dollars

    Does anyone have any good suggestions for taking off the o2 sensor? I swear my sensor is melted on there. I've tried PB blaster, I've tried those 3 different rental tools, and I've also tried driving the car around so it would get hot and in hopes of maybe making it easier but NOTHING. I'm a week or two past due for my emissions/registrations so I need a real good suggestion. Also before I get to that problem. When I first took it for emissions testing, I failed. It said that the CO2 reading was too high and it was by about 100 points. So what do you guys think that could be? I figured it could be the O2 or it could be the cat. As for my exhaust setup, it's straight pipe from the cat. Any help is greatly appreciated guys.

    I am in a similiar boat, the secondary on my 96 factory aba passat is like that, I felt like i was gonna break the exhaust before breaking it loose, it was suggested to me to take a impact to it, but I don't need to worry about it here as we don't have emissions and the 2900lb tank get 30.+ mpg and that is with 5th gear gearing runing about 3k at 60 mph. try impact maybe

    autozone had a 3 tool kit for like 20 or so dollars, I just bought it and kept it.

    You're right but I got my money back. You pay full price for it and when you're done using it, you get your money back.

    I just filled it the other day with guaranted to pass and I've been driving around burning it.

    anyone have thoughts on a bosch versus a denso(AKA ND or nippodesno) as far as longevity is concerned?? the easy way to identify the 2 is the bosch sensor body is much fatter than a denso one, the denso body is much skinnier. the nut is usually if not always hte smae size between the brands. maybe soon I can take a side by side comparison pic

    So... Two o2 sensors? One on the header and one on after the 'cat'... which doesnt exist any more... Which one should I replace? Both?

    There's currently a bolt in the upper spot but the car doesnt idle for crap, stupid lazy o2 senor!

    Hey guys realize this is the 16v forum but i am new to the vw world and trying to figure something out. as i suspected you can just wire in a new 02 sensor but what i am wondering as i think one person mentioned but need some clarification on, is my 97 golf 2.0 is a 4- wire set up. can i just use a 3-wire and connect my ground to the chassis to get the same effect. also i have an opportunity to pick up a used 94 02 sensor 4 wire for 20 bucks. is it worth it to go used and save 15 or should i just spend the extra 15 right away and get a brand new one.
