yep that's exactly what they did.

there was an overall podium that had all three steps filled. then during the class podiums, only two steps filled for LMP1 - it was kind of sad.

It was hot as hell, and the public at the grand stands went ballistic at the end. What. A. Race!

Couple of pics and clips, will be posting about it in the not to far future.

Most I've watched in years thanks to the Fox Sports Go app. Was pretty cool to be able to drop in on it at any time during the weekend. Man so I want one of those Porsche Hat Trick t-shirts...

What a finish. To watch that Porsche make up that time that quickly on the LMP2 leader....And then to watch the Corvette suffer a puncture on the last lap....Very Steve McQueen.

If the LMP2 car would have won...Would that have been the first time a non top-tier category would have had overall victory since the 935 era?

I made it to about 5 hours left, which was something like 1am local time... I wish I could have made it to the end seeing as the last 5 hours were quite exciting.

The last non top tier overall winner was the McLaren F1 GTR in 1995. Prior to that, the 935 was last one in 1979.

Does the 1994 winner, the Dauer 962 or whatever it's called counts? Technically, it was categorized as a GT1 car and not the top tier WSC.

I watched all but about 2 to 3 hours. I'm not feel great today even though I went to sleep at 7 PM Sunday.

The Corvette just had worn out brakes and tires causing the severe understear at the end. Top end is where the Aston Martins shined.

      787B was before the 935.

Meh. That was such a thinly veiled cheat. It was literally the same car that had dominated for over a decade.

The 787B was a C2 car in 1991, with the top class being the C1 cars built to the 3.5l engine regulations.

Maybe clarification is needed. The last GT class overall winners were the F1 (GT1) and 935(FIA Group 5?). Maybe a better way to state is vehicles based on production cars? I quickly scoured the list of overall winners for the last 30 years and dismissed those above. My apologies.

TV commentators were talking about whether or not the team was allowed to hit the starter, but alas they did something stupider by modifying the bodywork.

That sucks. I watched them drill the hole. I mean, it was out of necessity, as the spec bodywork apparently fit for balls.

I feel bad for Rebellion, which has now run well at Daytona Sebring and here, but suffered losing a podium for that mistake. But good for Alpine who also ran well and now has a p2 podium!
Touareg Hybrids are pretty nice, and the warm fuzzies I felt while driving the hybrid was actually the fingers of all of the German tax payers trying to reach into my wallet to get their money back. (Brendan@bwalkauto)
