when mine went it would idle like crap to the point where it would stall. i didnt have any prob. at 3000 rpm though. my mech got me one from a junk yard w/24000 miles on it for like $30. good luck

im having a similar problem, if i stay on the throttle for more than 4 sec it will bogg out but if i pump the throttle 3 sec. down let off for 2 and then back on for 3, over and over i dont have any problems, but it take forever to get up to speed. Does it sound like a TB problem? or maf?

But how do you know it was the TB? The TB on MKIII 2.0's is a mechanical beast, not electrical. The only way the TB would need replacing is if the actual housing or butterfly mechanism or the linkage to it breaks which is very rare.

There is an Idle Stabilizer Valve built into the TB on OBDII cars which you can take out and clean. Probably what was wrong with your car since it wouldn't idle but be fine off idle.
