There should be a way to limit posts like these to keep the information that gets posted worthwhile. That way it could be a lot more helpful..

I'll tell you what, take you own advice and save it for when hawc (sorry hawc) or WOB German or whoever posts garbage threads ten times without using a search. A little blurb post doesn't kill kittens, IMO.

Very interesting. I agree with some of you points but in all reality VwVortex is quite possibly one of the best sites out there. Try reading other forums regarding ANY type of car/manufactuer and every post just sucks. Sometimes this place is pretty bad but compared to other places out there it is definatly among the best.

And I agree fully - I've read clubsi and a couple of the 240sx boards out there, and they have absolutely nothing compared to the 'tex. But as I said before, why not try to fix the few things that are going wrong, and are still fixable?

I just worry that another 50k users will show up in the next year, and alot of these problems will be impossible to deal with then. Cheers.

EDIT: One thing we can do, for example, is to not reply to those people who post severely off-topic pictures and whatnot. Why give them a reason to reply again? If people just read it, maybe laugh a little and move on (WITHOUT REPLYING), those people will have no reason to retaliate, which means their little post or two goes unnoticed, and more importantly, will eventually be lost in the "depths" of the thread.

    As far as post count.....

....there are a few guys here that, as far as I can tell, live here. They may not pay rent, or maintain it, but they certainly decorate it, and the place wouldn't be the same without them.

I believe there's such a thing as squatter's rights, even on the internet. A little leeway is always given to the truly dedicated. That's the way society works. Why should the Vortex be any different?

That said, occassionally some jerkoff just continually gets out of line, and despite their high post counts, they get the boot as readily as anyone else. <cough>EbbVicious</cough>

And I know better because I'm 12 years older than you are, you big baby. If you want kinder and gentler, try here.

You know, we were saying this when there was 1000 members. The board has changed, sometimes for the worse, but all in all I've been coming on here for over four years and I still come back. No matter how constructive you're trying to be, it's gonna be like pissing premium on Chernobyl.

I've watched other internet bb's slowly dissolve into soupy fecal matter right before my eyes. I'd hate to see this one do that.

OTOH, that particular bb was a hip-hop board and since over the last 5 years hip-hop music and culture has dissoved into soupy fecal matter, I shouldn't be suprised.

Hopefully the general hobby of CARS wont go that route. If you look at the trends in cars, you'd think that it's turning to ****, but the 'tex is remaining pretty strong IMO. Probably not as good as before, but still positive.

    Blah, blah, blah.

I agree with you to a certain extent. By no means was I bashing those of you with 10,000 posts - you likely know (and have shared in those 10,000 posts) more than I ever will.

Lighten up, levity is what makes these forums fun. Within reason of course. It's not like we'd want a massive thread full of useless, photoshopped pics of things like lumber and sloths and big trucks.

  14. 07-17-2003 04:19 PM #49
I agree with most of what has been said here... I'll admit, I was dumb enough to fall for the "click HERE" thing and got logged off

But as for the truly dedicated... like he said, he's on here for at least three hours a day, isn't that dedicated? Just because he didn't know about the site or have interest in VW's for as long as some people, he still spends quite a lot of time reading about them and hanging out in the forums.. not to argue, but I suppose it's just a thing about how you define "truly dedicated." Because on one side of it, there could be the guy who posts smiley's and pointless posts on every thread, and has 3000 posts in two weeks.. then tehre's the guy who reads a lot and posts only when he has a lot to say, and has 200 posts after 2 years.

I totally agree with the idea that posts under a certain number of characters shouldn't be allowed.. although people would probably still find a way around it, like put .................................................. ...............this thread sucks............ hah! I got more than 50 characters!

I'm done posting.. sorry for wasting anyone's time

edit: I just realized the first part of the post sounds really hostile... I didn't mean it that way, I just suck at writing so I have a hard time sounding friendly sometimes

First of all...welcome to the past 2 years. This has to be "the most ignorant irresponsible post ever" but I've responded to it to add to my post count. You should really get either a Honda or an MK4 so that you fit in better with like minded people. And if you do get an MK4, how will you afford it? You're only 18 years old. Maybe your parents will buy it for you!

    [/tongue in cheek]

DISCLAIMER #7: No, VWVORTEX doesn't suck. The title is simply a direct reflection of how angry I get with some of the things that go on around here. You don't have to reply just to tell me that the tex doesn't suck, I know - thanks anyway

DISCLAIMER #8: I'm 18 years old, you really don't have to tell me that I'm young and ignorant and that I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a teenager, therefore I'm invincible - of COURSE I don't know what I'm talking about.

Junior, if you get this worked up over an internet
discussion forum, then God help you in the real world.....

The best thing you can do is report them to a moderator so they can be removed quickly before the thread gets out of control and is not able to be cleaned up. The more people that use this function the better the forum will be... How To Report A Post To A Moderator

I don't get it. Hardly anything you say has to do with the programing or the staff(other then "bombing" which was not cool.), Its the members that you have the problem with you cant change peoples psyche. why not take your own advice and just leave them alone or skip that post and dont read it. IE change the channel if you dont like whats on

  21. 07-17-2003 09:24 PM #56
wow your rambling went on for a bit only for your conversation to be about pointless things being pointless, Kinda pointless right? And then after the guy that started the post said feel free to reply no matter what you have to say, You Im me to tell me I should have not posted. So does that make you one of the Items he rambled about IE being a retarted rouge mod and trying to tell people they are being bad.

Like I said just keep scrolling thats it the answer right there. Like I did with your post but then had to come back after you tried to "nazi modrate rouge style" and IM me with your 2 cents.

but he also said if you disagree, voice your opinion but don't flame him... that PROBABLY means don't be an ass about the way you present your opinion.. you were an ass about the way you presented your opinion.

...and NEXT week on "WHY VWVORTEX SUCKS," maybe I'll devote an entire post to "people who completely miss the point of my post, and think I'm trying to play moderator, even though they have zero sense of humor, nor can they comprehend the idea of sarcasm!"

That'll be a hit for sure.

This is the stupid post I've ever seen on this lame-ass site...

    Just kidding...

In all seriousness, Sunil hit it on the head. I'll add further that we have a LOT of young people on these boards and maturity and respect levels VARY WIDELY. With the kind of diversity we have here, coupled with the large numbers of readers there are going to be problems we just can't fix no matter how crazy we get with moderation - that isn't the solution anyway and only makes it worse.

Unfortunately if you spend some time looking around at other really big forums that have big diversity in age and maturity, it is the same everywhere. It is an unfortunate by-product but you learn to ignore it and concentrate on the good parts.

    No you're not kidding

Seriously, I can honestly tell you that after spending some time on other forums ( car / non car related) this is by far the best forum/ on-line community on the net hands down. From the site layout, membership and combined knowledge base and even forum moderation there is no other site that comes close to the 'tex. There s a reason why even non VW/ VAG owners frequent this site on a very regular basis.
