No offense, but are you colorblind? The only person I know who is actually colorblind, asked if it was blue/grey also.

did the factory mk2 vr6 have a special name?

It was called RV6. This is the second version of the engine, pic from 1987.

    This pic is much earlier.

you sure? because the earlier version looks much more like the current vr6 with the intakes all on front

is that what I think it is? Factory colormatched bumpers!?

Yes, the first version of the engine mimics the 1984 Oettinger 2000E/16v head layout. Exhaust at the back, front intake with injectors on top.
You can also tell by the shape of the distributor. The first one is tall like the 8v, and the second short like the 16v

The second version has button head screws for the valve cover like later Polo engines. It also has the Corrado p/s reservoir. The log exhaust manifold was chosen due to space limitations. Note how this engine leans forward, while the first one leans back.

The oil caps are another clue, tall and narrow on the first, and shallow and wide on the second engine.

I wish more pics of these vehicles were available.

So they intended it to be 24V from the start? interesting.

Check the site in my sig to learn specifics about the USA/Canada Special Editions

Also, the factroy painted bumpers were used on a few special models. Golf GLX in Europe used them too IIRC.

Doesn't look factory, notice how the "P" crosses the body line.

Do you have other pics of the vehicle.

In the other thread you posted, it looks like it's just a factory blue Golf, with some special dealer stuff put on it.
