HI GUYS!
my first time here and hoping someone can help me with my URGENT concern..
WHERE IS 2000 VW JETTA VR6 THERMASTAT LOCATED????
Need to replace it as soon as possible...
IS IT WISE TO JUST TAKE OFF THE THERMOSTAT?
Badly need HELP NOW! Thaks guys!
Thanks dgoodlin1... and no it is not wise to just remove the thermostat. Depending on your finances you might want to plan on replacing the thermostat housing and the crack pipe.
If you go cheap, there is a way to get the thermostat housing off without removing the lock carrier by removing the battery and battery tray.
Good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yup - doable, but difficult if you aren't familiar with where things are in there. Getting the rear bolt is the hardest to find if you don't already know where it is. Here are a pic from when I did mine that may be helpful:
Front 2 bolts:
This pic from darisd's (awesome) DIY show's the rear - just be careful which you get - the one you want is kind of deep down there.
Be sure to replace the seal between the coolant flange and block (odd shaped seal) and the o-ring for the crack pipe when you put it back together.
