 ------- - - --HAWAIIAN 16vt PROJECT - --- - - - - - - - - -« »

Alooooooooha,
Hey folks, I am launching a budgeted 16vt project. I own a 90 Gli 2.0 16v with 140K miles on it. Not really a turbo guru, but I know enough. Help would be appreciated though.I am starting this thread for all of the people who kind of need a base for their 16vt project as I did. Here are MY goals:

Less than $1300
5-9 psi
Stock bottom end , stacked HGs I think
200 whp
Digi 1, SNS chip - SORRY for bailing on you Motronic guys

Already ordered:
T3 Turbo, 35mm WG, and BOV package from EBAY, $400 by SSautochrome.com

Oil Kit,$70, SSautochrome.com

Log exh. manifold, $260, boostfactory

NGP turbo chip, Ed and Nate at NGP thanks, $150

About $900 so far, all I need is accesories like Boost guage, controler, 1.8t SMIC, and downpipe

Thats it for now
Ill update you folks latter

you might want to add some intercooler piping in there somewhere. should be fun when its done. and i would probably get an intercooler that is bigger than a 1.8t sidemount because they are pretty small. something like a supra sidemount or something? that is if you wanted to go with a sidemount

NGP said that they would sell me a 1.8t SMIC for about $50, Piping should be no more than $100

Thanks for the Input

i would suggest at least stacking the gaskets to lower the compression a bit. other than that...good luck.

yeah, 11:1 compression, could prove to be a problem with boost

Yeah, had that in thought
Me and my father are doing this project,
There is a EURO cruise, first in about 1 million years on my island, and I dont have time to do it right for now. I am trying to complete it by the 23rd. Might not happen though, but I will be stacking or buying an EIP HG latter.

How do you stack HGs anyway? I have an extra one at home.

Can anyone give me a diagram on where to get my turbo oiling from?
I heard I can either get it from the oil pressure sensor or oil temp sensor, wich one

It doesn't matter. Either one will work. You should have a T fitting for the oil line.

Sounds like an awesome project.

Any idea how you're going to manage fueling? I always thought it'd be awesome to boost a car with a frankenstein parts set-up, but i could never wrap my head around how i'd manage fueling, without shelling out cash for standalone.

Any tips? Thanks!

Can anyone say NGP turbo Chip

I ordered their 16vt chip from Ed. Its $159, every additional re3burn is $30

Its supposed to increase fuel and decrease timing at higher rpms, so no detonation for me

Has anyone used this before

The side mount intercooler on the B5's are a little bit bigger than the side mount intecoolers in the A4's. So if he got a side mount from a Passat 1.8T or Audi A4 1.8T he'd be better off. For 5-9 psi and 200 whp, it might not make a huge difference. Besides, a larger front mount could always be installed as budget allows.

yes copper gasket will leak coolant if hylomar isnt used properly .. but if u take a mk4 gasket ( steel shim) an use the outer layers for sealing side and a 092 copper gasket for the stacker u got a bitchin setup... copper gaskets aren't rubbish..sce is using silicone to seal the water instead of hylomar and they have a new system of oringing the actual gasket so u don't have to oring your head
but for what your looking for a reg plain jane 092 gasket with a mk4 gasket will work great

yeah the outter skins of a mk4 gasket is embossed steel.. it will seal like a reg gasket. oringing. where a groove is machined around the bore either on the head or the block and a oring ( piece of stainless wire is inserted to help seal the bore

if you got the T3 Master Power turbo that is a NICE turbo. people will hate on it but from personal experince it's a KIILER turbo very nice. i thought you got the t3/t4 taht are madein tawain. That MP turbo is a good choice and i would say on par withthe garrets. I have the exhaust outlet you need for that turbo
