VWVortex.com Rules

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

In an effort to improve the signal to noise ratio on our forums we ask that you abide by these guidelines when participating. With over 50,000 registered members from all over the world we have reached a point where tremendous diversity, age, education, location and more are all factors to consider when participating in our forums. We want to promote a clean, healthy, respectful atmosphere where people are not afraid to ask questions, participate in this community and generally have a good time discussing the things we love most - cars.

With that in mind, here are the rules:

THE BIG RULES: Violation of these rules is grounds for IMMEDIATE banning of your account. If you think we're kidding, think again.

  • No profanity in subject lines or signatures.
  • No spamming or commercial solicitation of any kind. Any such messages will be removed at the discretion of either a forum moderator or administrator. Selling of individual items is permissable by a private owner in our Classifieds forums, however selling multiple items of the same product is considered a commericial post and may be removed at the discretion of moderators and/or staff. Group buy topics maybe posted in the forum they most apply to as long as the company conducting the group buy is a full banner advertiser on VWvortex. Classifieds belong in the classified forum. Only VWvortex banner advertisers (not Directory advertisers) are permitted to make commercial posts in the general forums. Directory advertisers can make group buy or commericial posts only in the classifieds.
  • No flaming of other members to incite or perpetuate a conflict or argument. ANY personal attacks or name calling will get you banned.
  • No bombing forums or threads with pointless posts.
  • No linking or posting of pornographic or objectionable material.
  • Do not impersonate other individuals or falsely represent yourself.
  • Do not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any illegal activity on the forums. Linking to locations that deal with any such activity are also forbidden.
  • Posting under secondary usernames or alias user names other than your main account for the purpose of arguing, degrading or belittling other readers is grounds for having your posting privileges revoked.
  • You must have a valid e-mail account in your profile so you can be reached by a forum moderator or administrator.
  • No signatures with more than five lines total.
  • A car forum like VWvortex is not the place to post personal problems, questions about personal relationships, etc. These types of posts will be deleted.
  • No VWvortex or Vortex related user names are permitted and may be revoked without notice.

These are here to help you (and others) have an enjoyable experience here.

  • Respect both forum moderators and administrators. It is a thankless job that we do, and cleaning up other people's messes is never fun.
  • No SHOUTING. Don't use all caps when posting. It is difficult to read and annoying.
  • Try to post to the forum that is most appropriate for the topic being presented.
  • No cross-posting. (see spamming above)
  • Refrain from using profanity or cr3ative spell1ng to get around the censor filters.
  • Respect the privacy of other members and individuals. Do not post personal information about them (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, etc.)
  • No buying, selling, or trading anywhere outside of the Classified Forum.
  • Observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material.
  • Do not post messages that violate Federal, State, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or is bound by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).

Moderators and administrators frequently review forum messages for those that are in violation of VWvortex rules. Any messages found to be in violation may be deleted without warning or explanation. VWvortex also reserves the right to ban any user, at any time, and for any reason.

There are going to be topics and discussions that will have heated debates. Please think before you post and re-read what you type before you post it. Keep your comments limited to the debate at hand and not make this a personal issue between you and another reader. There is tremendous diversity in age, race, gender, language, location (worldwide) and more here and there will be a lot of varying opinions on different subjects. We're all human beings and we we're all drawn to this site because we have a common bond as Volkswagen and car enthusiasts.

Considering the real-time nature of this bulletin board, it is impossible for VWvortex to review all messages or confirm the validity of information posted. Please remember that VWvortex does not actively monitor the contents of posted messages and are not responsible for any messages posted. VWvortex does not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and is not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of VWvortex or any entity associated with VWvortex. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. VWvortex has the ability to remove objectionable messages and will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if determined that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Discussion Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by VWvortex.

Although this Discussion Forum does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we at VWvortex reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless VWvortex, ZeroForum (the makers of the bulletin board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s).

We at this discussion forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.

A valid email address is required for registration so that your password can be sent to you personally. This has been done to prevent and safeguard the VWvortex Forums from random attacks and people looking to cause problems and spam these forums. VWvortex does *NOT* sell or distribute your email address to any third parties. The option to have your email address visible in your posts on these forums is controlled and determined by settings in your profile which you control. If you feel uncomfortable submitting your email address, you can go to a number of free email services on the Internet to get a second email address for the purposes of registering on bulletin boards like this one. Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on these discussion forums.

    Advertising Rules and Regulations

    VWvortex Directory
    VWvortex Current Ads

  • Advertising Levels:

Forum Sponsor – This is a company who has sponsored a specific forum. They have the ability to have up to three threads “stickied” at the top of the forum of which they sponsor for the span of 14 days. A banner in place of the usual forum header at the top of the forum denotes the company’s presence as that Forum’s Sponsor. Forum Sponsors are acknowledged bys a “Forum Sponsor” user title.

Banner Advertiser – This is a company whose banner(s) is in the main ad banner rotation on the discussion forums and are displayed throughout the website on the “editorial side” of the site at the bottom of articles, features and resources. This type of advertiser is eligible to support Group Buys and eligible to cross post to other forums beyond just the classifieds forums. Banner Advertisers are acknowledged by a “Banner Advertiser” user title.

Commercial Enabled Directory Advertiser – This level of advertiser may initiate commercial posts or support Group Buys, though they cannot cross post to other forums beyond the classifieds and must follow posting rules listed above. A Directory Advertiser may be an individual or a company. Directory Advertisers may only post their products and services in the classified forums. Directory Advertisers are acknowledged by a “Directory Advertiser” user title.

  • Commercial Posting Regulations:

    1. There is no spamming or commercial solicitation of any kind allowed on VWvortex other than authorized individuals representing a given level of advertiser. Any such messages violating these terms will be removed at the discretion of the moderators and/or staff.

    2. Selling of individual items or vehicle is permissible by a private owner in our Classifieds forums, however selling multiple items of the same product is considered a commercial post and will be removed at the discretion of the moderators and/or staff.

    3. Personal classifieds belong in the classified forum and not the main forum. If classifieds are posted in the main forums, they will be removed at the discretion of the moderators and/or staff.

  • Group Buy Regulations:

Due to the large number of Group Buy postings in certain forums, abuse of Group Buys, by both dishonest individuals who collect money and do not ship the product, and by certain companies who do not support this web community in any way, VWvortex has implemented these guidelines for Group Buys.

    They are as follows:

  • VWvortex Group Buy Policy:

    1. Group Buys may only be conducted through current VWvortex Forum Sponsors, Banner Advertisers, and current “Group Buy Enabled” or “Commercial Enabled” Directory Advertisers. Any Group Buy that does not adhere to these criteria will be deleted. Any user can organize a Group Buy, but every group buy must be backed by one of these types of advertising entities.

    2. There will be no cross-posting (a.k.a. spamming) or announcements of GB's from the Classifieds section to other general forums (i.e. 25th Anniversary pedals should be posted in the Mk IV Classifieds not the Mk IV forum). Only VWvortex Forum Sponsors and Banner Advertisers can cross-post to the general forums announcing a Group Buy. Directory Advertisers may not cross post or post commercially in any forums but those designated as classifieds forums, and specifically that forum in which their product pertains to. Regular forum members can post a link to a Group Buy in their signature file and may only mention Group Buys in existing threads that are on that topic.

    3. ANY GB’s that are posted outside of the Classifieds that are not through an established Banner Advertiser or Forum Sponsor will be removed, and the user will be warned that their user account may be in jeopardy if further Group Buy postings continue.

    4. Every Group Buy must have a subject heading that adheres to a set form. This must include, in this order, the label “GB”, Product Name, Application, Supporting Entity, and Additional Info (if so desired).

Ex. GB – Lupo GTI Shift Knob, Golf & Jetta IV, 1552 Design

Any Group Buy that does not make use of this subject form will be deleted at the discretion of the moderators and/or staff.

By making all Group Buys supported by an advertiser, the intention is to add some legitimacy to many Group Buys where private individuals who have no reputation in jeopardy and there is a potential for Group buys with them to more likely to result in a bad experience. By routing it through established businesses or those who've shown a monetary and reputability investment in our community, this will hopefully lessen the chances for unsatisfactory results.

Further, by running Group Buys through VWvortex advertisers, you are helping to support companies that support VWvortex. These companies help make sure that this community exists well into the future.

  • Advertising Rules and Regulations FAQ

Q: I’m interested in signing up for either a Directory Advertiser, Banner Advertiser, or Forum Sponsor status; how do I do so?
A: To sign up for either of the above level advertising positions, please contact Sean@VortexMediaGroup.com.

Q: I want to organize a Group Buy, can I do so?
A: Yes, any VWvortex user can initiate and organize a Group Buy at no charge to them. However, every Group Buy must be supported and handled through either a Forum Sponsor, Banner Advertiser or qualified Directory Advertiser.

Q: What if the product I want to do a Group Buy for is not sold by an eligible company in the VWvortex Directory?
A: VWvortex advertisers are broad enough and numerous enough that they cover virtually all parts. If not, many are willing to help out by distributing and processing the parts in question. If the part you want is unique to a company that does not advertise with VWvortex, you may want to suggest to that company that they consider doing so.

Q: Why did VWvortex implement these rules?
A: These rules were implemented for your protection as buyers and also to help support those companies that choose to support our community. By having companies register with us, the chance of our users getting scammed is much less as those companies or entities doing this business then have something to lose. The implementation of proper user titles makes moderating the forums much easier. Forum Sponsors and Banner Advertisers, may post sales in all forums. Directory Advertisers may only post sales in the Classified forums.

Q: What if, even with the new rules, I get scammed in a Group Buy?
A: If a situation arises where there is a problem regarding payment without delivery on product, any user should contact an administrators of VWvortex immediately if they wish action to be taken. Our staff will investigate, and if the situation warrants, that entity will be removed from having Group Buy privileges. While this does not assure money will be returned or the part will be shipped, a key benefit is that it will assure that fellow users are not scammed thanks to communication amongst our users. However, in the end, VWvortex is not liable for any problems that result out of participating in a Group Buy on this site. Let the buyer beware.

How To Post Pictures on the Forums

    1) You first need to host the photos on the internet somewhere. There are a few different places to do this, but not all of them are free. List of hosts that work here >>>

    2) Once you have your pictures hosted somewhere you need to get the URL that points to the picture you want to post. If you do not know how to do that please go here >>>

    3) Now you need to place the URL between the IMG tags and it should look just like this example...

    [img]http://vwvortex.rely.net/images/masthead_03.gif[/img]

Then once you submit the post you will get this...

    Where To Host Pictures

Here is a list of different image hosting websites that you can use here. These sites are not affiliated nor endorsed with or by Vortex Media Group and this list is only provided to help the forum members find a hosting solution so you can share your photos on the forums.

    Quote »

    www.hostdub.com

Image and Video Hosting starting at $5.00 per Year. This includes bandwidth that is 100 times more than most image hosts. Catered to Volkswagen and Audi Enthusiasts. Also allows browsing of everyones cars, but also allows users to hide images, and create custom albums. Owned by a VWVortex member for VWVortex members. The site has been up for over a Year and has over 500 members.

    Quote »

    www.fotki.com

You must become a premium member for $30 per year. Then you get unlimited storage space and the ability to share your photos on other websites.

    Quote »

    www.fototime.com

Free 30 day trial, but after there is a yearly fee depending on how much space you want.
    $23.95 - 250.00 MB
    $47.90 - 500.00 MB
    $71.85 - 750.00 MB
    $95.80 - 1000.00 MB

    www.photobucket.com

Direct / Hot linking allowed, 2,500 megs bandwidth p/month (~70,000 hits), 100 megs disk space.

    www.photodump.com

    Quote »

    www.filehost.ca

5MB of free image hosting space.

    Quote »

    www.geocities.com

To make it work from geocities you need to rename your .jpg or .gif files to .txt then uploand and link to them just like it was an image. There is still one other problem with using geocities as your host. They have a limit on bandwidth per file and once you exceed that in one day they will stop hosting the picture till the next day.

If you have payed the $5.00 a month for webspace you do not need to use the .txt trick and you will not have to worry about the bandwidth limit every day.

    Quote »

    www.tripod.com

To make it work from Tripod you need to rename your .jpg or .gif files to .txt then link to them just like it was an image.

    www.iupload.net

Free, super easy, and even gives you url with the IMG tags for easy posting. This host has a couple of negatives though. One is you can not go back and find the URL if you wanted to post the picture again at a later time. The other is if the picture gets too many hits their website will stop hosting your picture and put a flashing banner in its place.

    Where NOT To Host Pictures

Here is a list of different image hosting websites that you can not use to post pictures on the forums. They are either no longer supporting remote linking on other websites or they have stopped their services all together.

How To Become A Forum Moderator

Moderators are usually referred by another moderator or on the rare occasion approached by a staff member or admin. General criteria that we are looking for in a moderator are:

  • Consistently contributes in a positive fashion to the forums/community
  • Not a consistent trouble-maker on the forums
  • Never been banned from the site

The ultimate decision is rather subjective and is made by the Staff with input from moderators.

*Note - VWvortex is not currently looking for moderators at this time, thank you.
