Watch out GTI... Maybe GM would bring this to USA under Saturn/Chevy/Pontiac badge

This is what the Malibu Maxx SHOULD BE.

The chrome accent and rear deck/hatch remind me of the maxx.

Overall hotness

Too much chromeage on the front grill and hear hatch. Otherwise a big

Sporty cars should not have chrome. Otherwise, not bad.

If GM really wanted it to appeal to a broader range of younger buyers in the VW GTI-buying demographic, they'd be wise to leave the Opel badge on the car. The target market for that car in the US wouldn't be caught dead in anything with a Saturn/Chevy/Pontiac badge on it.

I dont like it...looks like Pontiac designed it.

Malibu? No way.

This car should be sold here as the Pontiac Ventura first, and maybe as a Chevrolet with a new name second. I don't think the Nova, Cavalier, Citation, or Beretta names are appropriate. Not to mention that Chevrolet is barred from ever using Beretta again. Monza might not be bad, people have mostly forgotten the horrid (but pretty) original Monza.

Here is rear shot of Astra 4 door I saw in Greece.
Saw couple of 2 door hatchbacks on the road and my God. They look good.
Personally, comparing it to GTI, they look alot better. GTi looks bloated compared to Astra.

this is the same as the new Vauxaul Vectra right? supposed to be the #1 contender against the new GOLF in Britain... so says the magazines at least.

Same as the Vauxhall Astra, Vectra is a class bigger. Opel/Vauxhall = same thing with the steering wheel on a different side.

I remember racing against a last generation Astra, i was in front and we were in a tight bed and all of a sudden i look in the mirror and what do i see, he oversteers and does 3 360`s. I thought he was going to flip but he didnt. I stopped ahead and he came and stopped behind me all shooken up. His exact words transladed to English "this car handles like ****" "the chassis is too soft" hahaha. That was a fun day. I was in a Fiat Palio 1.8 16V for anyone who is curious. Lets just hope this generation doesnt handle as bad. But then again if its coming to the states they will make it an understeer queen so the average person shouldnt be worried.

I'm sure GM will be onto a winner with this one. The previous Astra was a major improvement as far as GM compacts went, while conservatively styled its chassis was a step forward. Ditto the current Corsa and Vectra.

I also like the looks.....

But then again, I also like the car that I could buy right now that looks very simmiler in profile.. (the Mazda 3 5 door).

Have you seen the late model Jetta GLI?

It can be pulled off IMO, maybe not in this case..

Looking good!

The more competition to Golf GTI the better, although Opel/Vauxhall hasn't gotten close to VW yet, even the previous generation turbocharged Astra still wasn't as a complete package as VWs.

Cheaper ? Yes. Better ? Nope.

Hopefully the new model will do better.

LOL!

It's a 3 door hatch... The Mazda 3 is a 4 door sedan or a 5 door hatch. Other than that, yeah, they both have engines, headlights and grilles... Care to point out the other resemblance...?
