DIY - Sideskirt repair due to rust, cracks, and age...

I didnt do this because I had looked and the dealer told me that I could get a set of skirts for $350.

Too rich for my blood. So then I was looking for a set of used skirts, I didn't need a whole set, just 1 part.

So Found a thread with this pic - (I drew on it.,..)

Call or visit local VW dealer - order part #13 as shown (Left = Driver / Right = Passenger)

Old Skirt Top.

New Part.

Peel it off, its just help in place by plastic clips.

$38.whatever = not bad for an OEM made in Germany part.

i did the same fix awhile back...just replaced the strips...didn't cost much $$ at all.

to add oem sideskirts to a car without them you will have to either pay the $350 for all of the necessary pieces...or buy them used somewhere.

nice work dan, another great quick and easy DIY that makes a big difference

you will probably never find them at a junkyard - ive been looking

most yards use a forklift type atachment to pick up the cars that will destroy sideskirts like it's its job

I just want the part that attaches the side skirts. $38 a side isnt bad, i can jsut get new ones..

1H0 853 995 for the left side

1H0 853 996 for the right side

this is just the front cap, only a few bucks IIRC. the rear includes the strip which is why its much more expensive.

I don't understand why people just don't screw the caps onto the fender lip. This way you know they won't fall off from driving, and it makes it a little harder for them pesky theives to pop them off....

so... does it work or no? and also check out 1stvwparts.com. it is only 23.86 for the cover strip rather than $38-$39.12 from the dealer.

Also just for fun I'll post this, but i do need these things so I searched for some other on 1stvwparts vs dealer: banjo 25.85 vs 41.32, cover strip caps 4.94 vs 10.32, cover strip 23.86 vs 39.12.

Yeah I got it working, i just had to put some more extra super glue.

although, it looks good.

Even tho, at the front piece, that holds the cover together, it's so faded now.. so probably will order both side pieces..

#14 part, the 1HO 583 995.

Patrick,

If you're after the long thin side skirt piece, we can not ship those anymore. Everytime we ship these they get destroyed by UPS. No matter how much packing we use, they always end up broken. Sorry...

im referring to the piece that runs along the top of the skirt, with one endcap. not the long strip that tapes to the car and everything mounts to

Okay I think I know what piece you're talking about. Shipping will be around $12 or so...

so.. moral of the story? call them and ask in person
