Tagging:
The only data that is transmitted is when you explicitly tag a thread. You have to be signed in to the forums in order to tag. The tag form sends over the userid to identify what thread and tag keyword was inputted into firevortex.net. Currently, nothing is done with that data but the future plan is being able to manage your tags: delete, share, etc... This data is not exposed in any way. Tagging is an optional feature of FireVortex and can be disabled at any time.

Rate-A-Advertiser
Your user information will be shared with advertiser which are rated. Reason: 1) Avoid Abuse 2) Advertiser want to learn how to improve their customer service.

Slow Loading Thread Preview
Thread previewing parses the 'print' version of a thread. If a thread is over 100 pages, it may take some time for the content to load into the background of Firefox (it is cached for future use)

My IMs Now Open as a Full Size Window
A weird bug exists with Firefox 3.0 in which installing/updating an extension the windows will return to full size. Users have reported double clicking the title bar each time will return the window to normal size. Eventually Firefox will restore this behavior to normal. No known fix at this time.

I Killed-A-Thread and Now Can Not Find it
When you kill a thread, FireVortex will just hide the thread in the HTML. A toggle button will appear at the top menu area indicating a thread was hidden. Simply click the toggle button to view. You can click on the [+] link and the thread will no longer be killed.

I Killed Threads or Ignored Users and Now Only See 10 threads on a Page
FireVortex will just 'hide' a thread from view, it will NOT pull in additional threads to replace the hidden ones.

What is this My FireVortex Page?
This page will automatically aggregate RSS data from your favorite forums and watched topics. You can automatically reload feed by clicking on the tabs to keep up on current discussions.

What is the Shoutbox?
The shoutbox is a simple ajax chatroom which you can chat with other FireVortex users in real time. (no refreshing). I only ask to keep it clean (NC-17) but what happens here is OTR.

What are the limits on Killing threads, Buddies, Ignored Users, and such...
On the My FireVortex page, a Stats section will list the current limits.

How do I Change FireVortex Options?
In Firefox; Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > FireVortex: Click on Options.

I Changed an Option but nothing happened
'Save' the options page, and refresh the page.

I Made Changes to the Options or Killed a Thread, Added a Buddy, Ignored a Users but Everything Resets
Firefox will rollback changes if a crash occurs. If you exit Firefox properly, all changes made within FireVortex will be saved.

I just Installed/Upgraded FireVortex and no Watched Topics or IM History appears
FireVortex parses data every 30 minutes to an hour when you are currently browsing the forums. This data is stored in a cookie as well. (double check your browser/firewall/antivirus settings)

I don't see such and such emoticon
Some emoticons are hidden and only appear during certain months. I also try and add a few new ones for each release.

I use FireVortex at Home, Laptop and Work, Can I Sync my Data?
No, Data is stored local in the user.js file. Other extensions have the ability to sync multiple profiles.

How do I know what Version of FireVortex is Installed?
In Firefox; Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > FireVortex

When I use Google Image or Yahoo Image Search, FireVortex Menu Bar Displays
Greasemonkey compares the url location to invoke FireVortex. I have tried to block them out but a few may slip in here and there.

Is FireVortex Available for Other Browsers?
Currently testing for Webkit - Google Chrome for Windows & Apple Safari for Mac . Sorry, No IE (never)

"The Screen flash" using FireVortex
FireVortex runs internally on Greasemonkey. A drawback to this method is how Greasemonkey interacts with Firefox.

FireVortex does not load or Firefox is just spinning/loading
FireVortex runs AFTER the page has completely downloaded to the browser. This issue is not related to FireVortex but the forums (and a third-party site)

Its setup to work with forums.vwvortex.com and forums.thecarlounge.net. I haven't tested it yet with the other sister sites since the html is a bit different, if someone wants one for mwerks or whatever, I could modify something for them.

I'll have a few more updates this weekend. I'm working on ignore users in the forum level (ie, when you are browsing the computers forum and someone you have ignored won't show up, whereas now you have to be in the thread level).

I also want to hash out an extended PM window script, so you can easily insert smilies, links, images, maybe make the window bigger or have it customizable. (just like if you were making new post with all the *cool* options)

I want to size-down images, but I'm not sure how to edit the file for a smaller pixel width. Also, does the max width have to be a "typical" screen resolution size, like 1024 or 800, or can sizes in between be used?

Sorry, documentation is never my thing

The size you enter in px is what max-width attribute value will be placed in the img src tag. I can be any numeric value from 0-XXXX, whatever fits your viewing pleasure. Personally, I have mine set at 900.

To set this value, once you load up the scripts, reload this page and click on Tools > GreaseMonkey > User Script Commands > FireVortex: Set Image Max Width. A little javascript pop-up will appear and type in the desired value.

The hubble image is 1280px wide and should stretch most typical viewing areas without the greasemonkey script.

There are actually two scripts, one for zerothreads and one for zeroforums. Just install this one then when you browse the forum listings, ie computers, golf iv, r32, n, etc... they will appear.

I'll consolidate things in the future but this is easier to test with.

Highlight sponsors and vmg moderators. This will just change the background color on the leftcol and titlebar area to certain color based on their level of sponsorship.

Basically I have:
//span[@class='posttext']/p/A[contains(@HREF, 'youtube.com/watch?v') and not(preceding-sibling::hr)]

but there are some cases in the sig where a p is after the hr tag, so the not() check won't catch that.

If any xpath gurus are around, please PM me.

Two problems I'm running into:
1. The radio button groups values are not always saving correctly (ie, archived and topic titles)

2. Some encoding issues with search terms and usernames

Anyway, that's one thing I forgot to mention... at least us Opera users can get that feature (so you don't have to put that in the code for the Opera version, if you have to develop a seperate one), except it only makes the images the maximum width that the window can support without a horizontal scrollbar, by clicking on the eyeglass icon, then Fit to width.

What is going on...
It took awhile to figure out how to inject the google api into firefox DOM (since google prefers their javascript before rather than after). The search engine is tied to the v-dub search I created a few weeks ago (referenced here).

So if the search results are not great... well you can do something about it. Contribute to the v-dub search project and you can annotate and categorize searches to better suit everyone's needs. So basically, if you say "well search sucks", you can change it.

I setup some basic categories, which you will see on the search results page (forums, aftermarket, news, etc...) Ie, Aftermarket will narrow the search results to the sites which I labeled as aftermarket companies (streetwerke, apr, vf, etc...)

There is one BIG ISSUE. The api key only allows 1000 searches per day. While I do not see that happen right off the bat, since most of us are power-users (and its few) but I may require an api key code in the future if limits are reached. (very easy to setup if you have a google account)

One suggestions, though, it would be great if we could delete specific conversations from our IM history. If I ask someone if they have a wheel, and they say 'no', I dont' really need to see that I talked to them anymore. I'd like to be able to hide it or something so I don't have to sort through a bunch of useless IMs to get to the ones that I still need.

Fix a few bugs with the google search
thread preview rollover (really want to get that hammered out)
I'll look into creating a IM manager script. Maybe a show/hide? priority? notes? export to? (ideas please!)

I'll branch off the social networking stuff... (tags, friends, bookmarking, etc...) until I can find a more reliable way

Anyways, please post up ideas! This helps me determine what could be done, right now I tend to troll the suggestion forum on areas which are lacking...

i noticed with the thread preview (since i'm parsing the print version) that hovering over 150 page threads will take some time to load but all thread previews are thrown into the browser cache to lesson the bandwidth hit.

scroll down to the bottom of the computers forum, what version number does it say? (should be: forum.user.0.1.9b)
if you hover over a thread topic, does anything appear? empty box? (there is a small timeout of a sec or so)
open the error console and hover, does anything show up?

Issue Resolved... Greasemonkey 0.6.9.2 botched up the scripts. If anyone has downloaded this version, you'll need to uninstall and reinstall the earlier 0.6.8.x version. I have updated the first post. You will also need to remove all files (including config.xml) from the gm_scripts directory from your mozilla profile directory. Basically, starting from scratch.

Small update: I tend to forget what topics I'm already watching... so this next update will parse out the first page of your watch topics and replace that message/notepad icon with a new icon: (updates every hour)

Is there a way to combine the feeds from different forums so that they all come up as one? I'm using a live bookmark and want all the forums messages I look at to come up under one live bookmark...for now they will have to be placed in a folder

As for the feeds itself... they can be spotty at times. From what I have noticed:
ZeroForum caps at 15 newest topics (if there was 30 new topics, only the last 15 are displayed)
Only new topics are placed into feeds (replies are ignored)
Sometimes the feeds can be an hour or two late
You may not see any new updates at all. (ie, if RSS Reader respects modified header dates)

Personally, I use Bloglines which allows you to save items. Though for about 3 months none of the feeds from vwvortex worked in bloglines. Vortex feeds also worked in thunderbird for me as well but failed in My Yahoo, iGoogle and other various homepage which incorporate rss feeds. I also had luck with sharpreader but haven't used that in over a year.

Hopefully that helps...

The whole point is to keep up to date on forum changes without going to the forum, and if it can't display replies then you basically miss what you're trying to do.

Liveclick is ok for getting rid of the ones you have read, but still it doesn't update anything properly even with 1 minute interval..seems like it's the forums problem beacuse I tried a reply and a new post on bimmerfest and neither has updated in my feed even with manually updating it

Try a few different readers and see what happens. Bloglines and the forums that I monitor are pretty up-to-date for me. (within 15 minutes or so) just remember not all rss feeds are created equal. Most apps cache updates every hour or so just to save on bandwidth.

Try hitting the rss feeds directly and examine the xml for lastupdate times and compare to your reader.

Quick comment: the staff/advertiser highlighting makes the topic bar (with the reply button) twice as high as it was before -- minor, but an annoyance all the same.

Yea, I'm going to chalk that one up to having the im history cached and you just happened to click on one that expired within that hour. (well, it makes me feel better to think that)

Does the IM History use pagination after so many usernames? Or do they all show up on one page? I've never had more than 15 or so at once.

I have a few more updates but I won't push those until next week. A new profile.user.js script as well! (viewing a profile, send IM w/o a pop-up window, for starters)

Situation in question - go to search, enter a user's name to search for current or archived postings and click search to get to the results. From that page it'd be nice to have the thread preview thingy you made for the main forums.

There maybe some quirks here and there but overall the functionality works. One minor bug... if you jump between domains (ie vortex and fortitude) some of the behind the scenes parsing might not fire. (ie that little watch icon or im history under a username)

Ok, some bigger changes in the pipeline so I rolled out a piece which I would like to be tested out. When browsing certain vw model forums (ie, MKII, R32, Corrado, etc...) You will now notice a gray footer at the bottom, within this footer I'm pulling in the most recent (newly listed) classified post for cars and parts. I really hate clicking around so I figured this is a great way to save some time and easier to see what is being listed.

In order not to kill the 'tex servers... the rss feeds parts for sale and cars for sale is cached and stored locally. That data is updated every hour.

You can toggle this feature on/off but I would like any feedback if possible. You'll notice a few quirks... biggest one is when you first hit the page the rss feed has yet to be cached (all hits after that are fine, well i hope so ). No thread previewing yet on those links but soon!

Anyways enjoy...

I agree on the balance, technically to be rss friendly, zeroforum sets the update every hour. I'll play around with a 30 minute interval on my end and see what happens.

Its a weekend but I did notice on the MKIV forum, that after the hour refresh it was around 5 or 6 new listings. I'll add an option to display up to 15 posts though, luckily the rss feed is just new posts only.

I did notice one issue, zeroforum does not sort the rss feed, so i'll have to muck around with that as well. Funny, this came in handy last night... while browsing the R32 forum, I noticed some parts for sale that I needed.

site note, I think there is about ~300 users so far. I don't track anything but checking the server logs for version updates, sometime last week hit the 300 daily mark.

Also, you can disable that overriding of window... I have my windows set to open in a new tab for FF so instead of opening a profile in the tiny window, it just opens from the parent window. On the IM window, right-click the monkey head > user commands > open profile window > click cancel and that should do it.

Also, possibly a suggestion for a future release: I love that it removes pics from quotes, but could you make it so the replacement icon is clickable, to bring the original pic back, or open it in a new window or something? Sometimes someone quotes a thread with multiple pics but singles one out, and it's hard to tell which one. I have to go into the page source to find it.

If you look at it, it's basically showing double link locations.....I would love to not have to keep turning on and off the corner monkey. I think these functions are great. My only complaint is this. I usually open Vortex through my watched topics. It helps keep me informed of those threads I have been following. I dunno, it just bothers me and I was hoping there would have been a better solution.

There's 2 different kinds of watched topics... one (the link on the main page, and the one you use) is a simple search via your name. The other (which is accessed through your profile setting page), shows basically the same list, but you can actually remove things you don't want to watch anymore.

The difference is, if you click "watch this topic", but don't actually post in it it won't show up in the search version of "watched topics" (because you haven't posted in it), but it will show up in the other one.

in an IM window: when i click on the person's user name, it should open their profile. In firefox with no scripts running, it opens in the IM box (lame), so i used to right click-> open link in new window.

WITH firewortex, it seems click on the username profile with the left mouse button yields nothing. (no function at all).

if i RIGHT click-> open in new window, i get a new window with an active IM box in it (see attached).

is anyone else reporting this issue?

I'm not sure what I'm missing here, but when I try to disable certain scripts... for example, Display Watch List...

I right click --> User Script Commands --> Display Watch List

After that, a small dialog pops up and the only options are "OK" and "Cancel." Clicking either one doesn't disable the script. I checked again and made sure I refreshed the page, but still no dice.

So you have to refresh the page after making those changes and some items are cached on the hour. (watch list icons, im history, rss feeds, etc...)

I just tried it again (to disable the RSS Watch List). I clicked "Cancel" when the dialog popped up and then refreshed the page, but it's still there. I even cleared the cache. I must be missing something.

First up: Forum.User

Updates: Motive domain is now included
New: Tagging in the "super footer" area is now active. This will pull in the last 25 tags for the forum you are browsing. I'm still testing this out, so displaying tags is only enabled for a few Volkswagen Models. Much tweaking needs to be done and finishing up the new domain name. Shoot me an PM if you see some big problems but right now expect unpredictable behavior

Also expect a new "bhb399mm select-a-text" for replying to threads. As in, you can pre-load favorite phrases to reply to topics. (i see masses of /thread and ftw being used here )

Updates: Motive domain, IM history bug (dups or wrong user) The cache will need to be regenerated, so give it an hour after updating the script.
Removed: this script no longer works on the page after submitting a new post/modify/reply.
New: Tagging. Under select forums, you'll see a tagging box under the thread title. You can enter comma delimited tags (multiple words) and even 1 or 2 character.

Tags and post information are saved at http://vwvortex.firevortex.net from here you can browse related tags and forums. Right now its a bit incomplete and simple but I'm trying to come up with ways to improve searching and saving threads. (I never liked using other social bookmarking sites for 'tex stuff)

Go easy on me please, be respectful in the words you use to tag.

Also, any php/mysql guys out there who would like to kick in a few hours a month. I'm more than happy to open it up on svn for improvements and feel free to drop any suggestions/bugs. I'll ajax'fy the tag button once I know things are running smoothly.

btw... rss feeds are available on firevortex.net. Its in the browser auto discovery and broken down: all, by tag, forum, by forum tag

Updated: Firefox now remembers the cursor position in the textarea when you want to insert a code [] tag. A javascript prompt for inserting hyperlinks and images.

As usual, you can disable this feature under user script commands.

Just came up with a new idea: formatting in an IM window. I'm sure it's annoying for people to type out bold, or italics, or smileys. Can you squeeze a formatting bar in, perhaps make the window a little bigger at the bottom and add them to the blank whitespace.

Would be nice to have a bigger (resizeable if possible) IM window too, but that's not essential...

There is a formatting bar in the IM window on the right side. BUT, I can apply the same fixes to that textarea as well.

I know it uses a template, but would it be possible to redirect to a new template hosted by you? You could use 2 different pics, one with everything below and to the side of the main text box, and then another with the lines above and to the left of the box (both go on for nearly forever), and anchor them to the lower right and upper left respectively, so that if you drag it bigger, only the main text area gets bigger scrolling is SUCH a bitch in IM windows, that I usually click on the person's name and check my IM history through their profile

I did a quick test and yes I can change the layout but the only issue is on the auto pop-up. So, I'll need to muck around with that.

On another note, I'll add the same cursor fixes to the signature page under profile options. I'll throw the character count and a way to save different sigs for later use.

I'm retarded. Sorry.

One teensy little bit of a problem with the new, improved posting edit link thingys: they keep focus. With the regular zeroforum links, if I click on an image tag, it'll deposit it and leave me to type right away. I'm so used to that, but when I click yours, it keeps focus, and if I hit enter or space, it'll add a blank image tag.

Thanks boostin for answering that! But don't worry on the work otherwise I would not put in the option to toggle everything. Its not for everyone (definitely from the mod perspective) but I would like to change it up in the future. Some sort of favorites or related forums, I'm open to suggestions.

Opps, looks like I need to apply the same cursor fix to the regular smilies too.

When you reply to a thread the highlighting of users posts who are moderators/advertisers/etc doesn't work when you are redirected to the thread after your reply.

I removed those included urls has it was causing some conflicts. (since the zeropost is used for the post.user script but as you can see zeropost is also used for threads after edits/posts)

I'm going to setup a redirect back to the normal thread url after an edit/post is made.

I have experience with Jive Software

Does ZF even exist anymore? Pretty apparent from their website and no activity since '04.

Can you use IEPro? They have greasemonkey scripts ability, I would have to make some adjustments but doable.

I am having a problem with the highlighted users. Sometimes the advertisers and moderators will be highlighted with their respective color, but most of the time, it doesn't work. This was after all the recent updates only.

If I let the search expire, yeah, it won't be there, but I'm talking about searching, finding no results, and going back seconds later and it's gone. It's never done that before Firevortex. I think the loading of the js script erases it (kinda like refreshing the page).

when i open a thread. everything appears with the FireVrotex colors for mods/advertisers, etc.

After i post, it reverts back to the thread like normal, but there is no more FireVortex coloring. If i refresh, its back how it should be.

Some people have posted youtube links in their signatures. When this link is imbedded, it's very annoying to see such a huge video in the signature. Is there a way to prevent video links from being inbedded in the signature portion of the script?

I'm close to a better solution. Previously, I was using xpath not to select the youtube beyond the <hr> tag for the sig but sometimes that does not catch everything. Now, I'm testing out completely rewriting the html in each post.

I catch myself rolling over those pages numbers too wishing that was there. BUT two small issues... Currently I capture the print page to play nice with 'tex servers/bandwidth/ease of parsing and I foresee the first post of every page being 'owned'

Maybe I can set how many posts (how deep to go) to parse those pages but that brings up another issue some users have mentioned. The preview box tends to bleed off the bottom of the page on long posts. Though, I could easily add some whitespace to the bottom of every page.

Someone asked me awhile back about privacy and if I'm tracking users or anything funky like that. Nope. Here is a break down of data stored:

IM History - cookie (vwvortex domain)
Search History - cookie (vwvortex domain)
Ignore Users - cookie (vwvortex domain)
Watch List - cookie (vwvortex domain)

This data is not sent anywhere.

You can easily bring up those cookies via Tools > Options > Privacy > Show Cookies > Search: firevortex

As for other misc data preferences... Each script has a unique namespace in firefox profile. Such as Thread.User and Forum.Users store data separately. (but working on combining all scripts into one) Besides toggle options, data is cached such has rss feeds from the 'tex to save on bandwidth usage, quick comments, custom emoticons, etc...

This data is not sent anywhere.

You can easily bring up this data by about:config > search firevortex

Now the only data that is transmitted is when you tag something. You have to be signed in to the 'tex and the form just sends over the username to identify what you tagged. Currently, nothing is done with that data but the future plan is being able to manage your tags, delete, group, etc... This data is not exposed in any way currently. ie, can someone find out what you have tagged, nope. everything is generic and no one can be identify via tags.

(this was more or less a test but the real goal is to create a User Seller Rating System)

BUT I will say this. Greasemonkey is extremely powerful in regards to xmlhttprequests and reading cookies. Someone could write a user script to steal your cookies on all domains and send them anywhere. (this did happen on userscripts.org)

Please, never download FireVortex unless it comes from the http://code.etiviti.com domain (and soon to be firevortex.net domain) You can always view the source and review what is going on but as these scripts grow, its becomes more complicated. (maybe why I have tried to keep the javascript simple)

So now I'm sure you feel all warm and fuzzy inside

So now we have a real extension which should void out any previous confusion to what settings are where and what pages things happen on. Everything tucked nicely into one preferences control panel. The script runs on every page which should allow me to push out new features much faster and easier. (ie, im history management)

So to kick this sucker off. I need some folks to test it out for me. (for those I PM earlier, download this latest version)

IMPORTANT NOTES
1) You MUST uninstall all previous firevortex user scripts
2) You'll lose all previous settings (no way around this due to different namespace usage)
3) This extension does not notify you when an update is available, so if you are testing it... I still have the once-a-day-check happening. If I get a https server setup... then I'll implement the proper firefox extension check.

Watchlist drop down. Just takes your last 35 watched topics This may be garbled at first due to data change. Just let FV rewrite the data at the new hour interval update

Bug Report - Now you can send me a bug report and it automatically includes the data(version, os, etc...) I need. (sends me a IM). You'll see a little bug icon in the upper right hand corner.

To force the regeneration of data, goto: about:config
search for: firevortexvmgforumscript.lastupdatehour
change the value to 10

There is a little [+]/[-] on the breadcrumb on top above the quick search on the main forum page (I'll replace this with a matching icon soon). I'll also add it to topic pages too.

I dumped the google ajax stuff... the only thing left is the search history. You want to toggle that on/off? (no problem with that one)

Or do you mean the drop downs instead of radio buttons. I did that for a reason... I want to say it was due to capturing the form data with greasemonkey but I'll have to check my notes.

The old scripts won't work at the moment as the previously gm user scripts relied heavily on the registerMenuCommand for user options.

Yea, shows you how much i use the other sites. I'll get that fixed soon along with the attachments.

i should also point out that fav forum, watchlists, im history, and ignore users are all domain specific. so when you browse vwvortex and jump over to motive those drops won't be populated right away.

I bought a few books on XUL and writing firefox extensions as well... so hopefully I can learn something new.

Hmm.. did I send you the procedure to force the refresh?

try this:
tools > options > privacy tab > show cookies > search for: firevorteximhistory and delete it
(if watchlist is the same, delete firevortexwatchlist too)

then about:config in url
search for: firevortexvmgforumscript.lastupdatehour
and set to some hour in the past like 10

Refresh the page and firevortex will regenerate the data. If that doesn't work, send me PM and we can go from there.

I have a 1920x1200 moniter, and I hit Ctrl + twice to get the font a little bigger for my bad eyes. after the 2nd hit though it moves the top vwvortex banner section way over. any way to fix this, or should I just get over it.

I'll change up the wording as the RSS preference option is different from that button (which is the rss feed for zeroforum and that particular forum you are browsing where as the rss option is just displaying some related feeds in a footer)

Most notable is storing im history in the firefox profile now instead of a cookie... for those with more than 200 IMs conversations

Fix the top header to play nice with different font sizes

A flagging feature requested by bhb399mm, you can flag watched topics or IMs. (up to 70) I'll incorporate multiple colored flags in the future as well. The drop downs on top will also reflect which items are flagged too.

Next week, I'll tackle fixing the textareas for signature/bio, attachment issue, a new image resize(expand to normal size onclick), and rewriting the ignore user stuff.

Could you possibly expand on that to allow notes for each? So a mod can flag a topic and write a note to themselves "watch for so-and-so"? Would that be helpful to you guys? Or is that too much?

A few more things... if an IM/topic is flagged, could it be bolded in the dropdown list at the top? Also, could you make the "Select Watched Topics" and "Select IM History" placeholders in the dropdown lists actually link to each page (perhaps drop "select" from the entry, since it's implied anyway)? Both pages are kind of a bitch to get to, it would be nice to be able to jump there from anywhere.

I may try it out behind the scenes. So if you are browsing a thread and it is watched. FV will keep track of the highest page number visited. I figure this would be helpful in general, keeping tabs on interesting threads and not having to worry about what page you last read.

I'll have to parse the watchlist page deeper though... right now I'm only picking off the first page (up to 35)

1) Is the "Favorite Forum" feature working yet? I see the drop-down menu and the heart icon, but the list isn't populated and the icon isn't clickable.

2) If the Beta replaces all the old Greasemonkey scripts, then is Greasemonkey still needed? The reason I ask is because the Beta version doesn't show up as a script in Greasemonkey.

Data may need to regenerate as I moved storage from a cookie to the profile. Give it an hour... send me an IM if its the same.

Would it be possible to set it up so there is a link (maybe in the IM history window) for a "New IM", where you enter the name of the person you'd like to send an IM to. Much better then going to search for a post by them etc. I know ZF does it by user number and you'd have to somehow link that to a name, though... perhaps ask Vortex nicely for a database if possible? or build it as you go (ie. have FV permanently remember everyone you've ever had an IM with, so you can easily re-IM them after the history clears).

Feasible? I know it would solve a lot of headaches.

One thing I just found... maybe I'm not doing it right, but I can't vote in polls. I was just in the 'Bracketology' forum and couldn't vote on a single topic. I switched over to IE to view the same threads and was able to vote like normal.

More details?

The downside to FV is that it won't kick in until the page has completely loaded into the browser. So if images or vortex ad servers, google analytics, etc... sometimes causes it to hang.

Which leads to a 2nd slow down point, all the DOM rewriting needed to inject features. (which really depends on many factors, ie, a huge picture thread, tons of youtube, slow puter, conflicting extensions like firebug, etc...)

But if you see a consistent slow down... just let me know the exact details so I can investigate.

Can we add an option so that (if you choose) when you select a watched topic from the drop down, it can take us to the last page of the thread (if its multi-paged)?

It might be hard to do it by the page number, since that will vary from thread to thread, but they all have the 'LAST>' link on those pages. Maybe that will give you a handle to get there?

2) Actively remember which page was last viewed incrementally. Only issue I see here is with the hourly update again. If you happened to watch a topic before its cached into FV. I won't be able to catch the page number until the update happens. (though I could fix this with a listener on the addnotify page but I wanted to avoid that and keep it simple)

3) Add a manual mark page read button feature which would be its own entity for any thread.

Do you mean different icon in general or a special icon if you have replied in a post? I don't believe there is an easy way for me to change the icon for a reply to post (no way to figure that out easily) but I could change the icon if you are the "creator" of a post easily.

We have 857 unique users of the new extension, a few stragglers running the old greasemonkey version as well. 2x increase since the the rewrite into an extension. Guess I better work on documentation and finish up some coding.

Sorry we missed each other at iForum this year. The new FireVortex scripts rock!

Any chance we can get an option to "sticky" the bar to the top of the screen, even as you scroll down the page? Just like in excel when you freeze a row.

Keep up the excellent work, your scripts are awesome!
