Post Title: Flying KLM Boeing 777 & Airbus A320 to Europe. Thoughts on planes / carrier?

I am going to Europe soon on a new airline and planes I have not been on and wanted to ask the conoscienti their thoughts. I am flying across the pond on a 777 and then an A320 for a short connecting flight.
How is KLM? I have never flown them before. Supposedly, they have upgraded their 777s and A330s to have seat back LCD entertainment systems, etc. How are the 777s?

Never been on a 777 but I imagine it would be fairly good. KLM fly's their A330 out of EWR to AMS and they all have seat back LCD's. And as far as the A320 it should be a good ride in that.

havent been on KLM's triple 7's but I can tell you that Continental has some nice ones. All and all the 777's are nice spacious planes. You can have a party in the cockpit, thats for sure.

I flew KLM about 5 years ago from SFO to AMS and was impressed. I was, however, on a 767 (I think). The inflight service was the best I´ve ever experienced in coach. It was my first time going to Europe and the FA sat down next to me and told me everything I wanted to know about Amsterdam, even where to score the best weed and cheapest drinks. I wanted to fly KLM when I came here last month but I got stuck on US Air. Worst airline ever.

The 777 is a beautiful aircraft. IIRC, KLM's 777s are GE90 equipped. Let me tell you; there is no other sound like the GE90s spooling up.
For some perspective, go to http://www.airliners.net:
Go to -> Search Now
Aircraft Type -> Boeing 777
Airline -> KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines
Category -> Cabin Views
Then -> Show me the Photos!
It appears that they have PTVs.

The A320 is a good little aircraft too. I've always enjoyed flights on them. Same equipment that JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit, Ted, etc. fly. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

I remember seeing the prototype 777 up in Everett back around the mid 90's. I was star struck by the size of it's engines. Yesterday at SFO I couldn't help but notice how many 777's there were parked at the international terminal where there used to be mostly 747's.

You and I have far differing views on what constitutes a "little" aircraft.

The 777 is my favorite commercial aircraft. I'm flying from London to SFO soon and was very disappointed that my flight was changed, 777 to 747.

I flew the same configuration on a 777 from SEA to LHR on BA and it was a bit cramped but nice. I'm sure KLM is top notch as far as service and Dutch women are very polite and nice to look at

I flew British Airways 777 from Philadelphia to London about 9 years ago and it was awesome. They had the TVs in every headrest.

I flew KLM in March of this year from Dulles to Amsterdam... (final destination was Prague, but we flew the Czech national airline from AMS to PRG - also a good experience btw)747-400 on the way there, and a 777 on the way home... both were immaculate inside with very cool personal entertainment options (several hundred movies/tv shows/albums to choose from - all complimentary).
The service was great, though I have to say Dutch is a F*$k3d up language to listen too
(j/k it was pretty cool actually
) The food was surprisingly good, and they are generous with the beverage cart.
Have fun!

Wow, that interior looks pretty nice. The seat-back screens are huge for me, I can barely sit still on 2 hour flights, let alone going across the pond! | Quote, originally posted by GolfTango » |

Another
for the KLM 777. I flew YYZ to AMS last spring and it was a pleasant and smooth flight. The seatback displays are nice but the picture quality isn't the greatest (what's one to expect on coach anyway) and If the person in front of you reclines their seat the display becomes a little hard to see unless you recline as well.
Food was good and the Flight Attendants were nice and pleasant.
Those GE90s sure sound great compared to the PWs on the old 767

The weird thing about 777s is that you can't hear gears going down during the descent. Needles to say, I felt a little nervous, when I first flew them.

I am hearing a lot about these GE90 engines, so I thought I would post a video link I found:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF6B1tIprpM&NR=1
