factory P slots have 9 slots these are different......here is how you tell...

step 1: take center cap off
step 2: look for vw part #
conclusion: if you find said part # it is from the special editions, if not it is most likely aftermarket.

normal mk2 ones....9 P's

the 8 P's are euro or Canada only..rare.

but the real question is why do 8 P's cost more than 9 P's. Im a bargin shopper and 9 P's for a lower price is a win for me.

The extra P is for Pimp!

15" p'slots are crazy uncommon, and came on some canada and UK cars. campaigns.

14" p'slots are not so much, but still cool they came on US pirellis mk2s.

Post Title:
Posted by: totenkopf at 3:19 PM 12-1-2008

15" "P" slots were made in ITALY and were an aftermarket wheel not a standard VW accessory. Were only a few sets made and were made to stop production as they were copyrighted.

"The campaign model was fitted with 14" Pirelli alloy wheels. Similar wheels were also available for the Mk2 GTI, but you can tell the difference in two ways. The Mk1 wheels have larger P's (the gap between P's on the mk1s is 7mm, on the mk2 wheels it is 10mm) and the centre caps on the mk1 should have the word 'Pirelli' stamped on them. Be wary of late model mk1 1800cc GTIs with sunroofs with a set of Mk2 GTI pirelli wheels, this is the most common 'Fake Campaign'. Check very carefully as authentic mk1 rims are hard to come by! You can also tell the difference between the two rims by looking at the part number stamped on the rim, after removing the centre cap. The original mk1 rims have a single 'A' at the end of the code, Mk2 rims have an 'AA' instead.
It's also worth noting that there are some 15" Pirelli Rims floating around the VW scene. According to Pirelli, these are unauthorized copies and were certainly not fitted as standard to the Mk1 Golf GTI."

This is the rare authentic Mk1 Pirelli P-Rim, the gap between P's is 7mm and the 'Ps' are slightly larger

This is the common Mk2 Pirelli P-Rim, with the gap now being 10mm to support the greater weight of the mk2, these are not correct for the 'Campaign', and the Pirelli stamped centre caps do not fit as well on these rims.

US sold non-VW parts

and 13"...originally Fiat.
I donated them to a friend for his Lowrider Golf (you can watch him at www.lowrider.at)

I still have 14" with VW part number and in my garage as you can see.

The so called "Pirelli" wheel was only installed on the Golf GTi models of 1983 and only in the size of 6 x 14" (Part No 171 601 025).
In 1984 they were also available for Golf MK2 but without Volkswagen logo at the wheel cover.
All 15" are Aftermarket!

There also have been produced:
5,5x13" for FIAT (Steel wheelcover!)
6x14 for Audi 81
7x16 for BMW
on 1985 Honda Prelude (Part No. P5564034)
6x14 and 5,5 x 15 and 6 x 15 Aftermarket (No VW Part Number)
All these have no VOLKSWAGEN logo at the wheelcover.

I hope I did not forget any wheel...

so no vw part numbers...

numbers i have are inside the P's none under the center cap:
FPS
KBA40920
6JX14A-H2 OFF33

any known meanings behind these numbers?

Post Title: FV-QR
Posted by: Digital K. at 8:47 PM 12-2-2008

offset is 33, 6 inches wide, 14'' diameter the KBA etc number is probably the stock/part number.

the KBA etc number is probably the stock/part number.

KBA means "KraftfahrBundesAmt", itīs the authority for car technics in Germany. Every Part that is produced in Germany for the car Aftermarket (security relevant parts) is examined by the KBA and than getīs a number so it can be easyly identiefied for which car or model it is allowed.
Meanwhile there exists the European "E" sign and the KBA number is not so important anymore.
You could perhaps translate KBA with "Federal Motorist authority".

5,5 x 15 Aftermarket have no VOLKSWAGEN logo at the wheelcover.

I have 10, 15" Pirelli plastic Embossed centercaps, all have VW & Audi Logo and 171.601.171A on the inside.
