VWvortex Feature: The Golf Next Door« »

For any guy, the “girl next door” implies a good-looking woman who shows subtle beauty. She probably uses little makeup and is no slave to fashion. However, that doesn’t keep her from being a major hotty.
With that in mind, we think we know of a Mark II (Mk2) that qualifies as the “Golf next door.” This particular gray 3-door GTI was one of the personal projects for Brad Beardow, formerly of fifteen52design and now a member of the VWvortex staff.

Wait a second...this car was already featured on here...like 2+ years ago. Why the re-tread?

No, we never ran the article. The pics have been up in the gallery for at least a year, but we never ran the article.

Feature cars are going to be MUCH more regular on the site. This is the second Feature Car this week, and we're doing general Features (not just Feature Cars) Monday, Wednesday and Friday normally. As we missed some last week due to SEMA and lack of connection, we're doing daily Features this week, and thus far have done....

Golf Next Door

Additionally, we're doing a new staff column every Monday (Jamie was a day late this week), so please keep an eye on the front page.

Brad definitely builds some of the sickest dubs i've ever seen, his sense of style and what to do and not to do with them is amazing...
that being said a few things i found interesting or funny "For the most part, the VR6 motor was left stock. A Z-Engineering supercharger was installed to help gases going in..." basically stock, we just superchargered it a little bit
and geez come on Brad use G11 coolant, don't think that nobody notices the green prestone crap in there

I was at 1552 a couple years back, visited with Steve and John a bit... great people.

I still say that 1552 were the best tuners around to date... especially Brad's rides. His blue DE and this car are my absolute favorites. He really knows how to make a great ride still look clean. This is by far my favorite MK2 Golf ever. I only wish to do the metal flares like brad's. I think it will be something I will have planned for the future. I still represent 1552 too; I always wanted my car to be a 1552 ride.

Killer GTI! Great article. I've been driving Project X every day since May and I can tell you it's a well built car! I've done a couple of small things to it myself, but I don't plan on changing a thing other than performance-wise, I'm even keeping the stock grille on it.....I've racked up over 10k miles since then and still going strong, even at 95k.
My GTI has sat since June! I love this car, and I'd love to drive that latest creation! I'm not looking forward to putting her away for the Winter....

Hmmm, well I guess you could look at it that way if you want to. Although, I tried to make it really clear in the article, our staff is really sweet on a lot of the cars that Brad builds.

That said, I'm not missing the irony that Brad is currently the one spearheading our own search for more feature cars. Plus, this car (again mentioned in the article) is hardly a rolling exhibit car for any one line or any one tuner. It's a mix, even in building it.

This car and Brad deserves all the attention it gets, even though it's an older project! It went in a direction at the time, that no one else was doing. It's beauty and originality are unmistaken. It's unfortunate that others don't accept that and whine about the timing of the feature. I am sure others will be featured that deserve to be. I hope others can stop and give props to every top quality VW that has been built regardless of timelines...

I have some pics of the archwork being done, but they're not hosted. I'll try to find them and send them to you via email.

And I'm now a full-time staffer here at VWvortex
