 chipped A4 (b5) slow??? anyone have dynos?« »

i'm looking into an A4 1.8T quattro. I've been on here reading and searching quite a bit and the overall consensus seems to be that a chipped A4 is still not that spirited of a performer. i'm from Golf/Jetta 4 world where a chipped 1.8T is the (disputed) king.

i'm not a speed freak and i don't want to to go all out on modding an A4, but if I purchase one a chip is definitely in the plans. so what kind of gains can I expect? anyone have Dyno sheets? what kind of 0-60 time will I see: 6's? 7's?

I love A4's and I am willing to go with a heavier, slower car because I like the luxury/style/quattro. Thanks for your info.

its the same engine..why do you think its going to be that much slower?

the only real issue with the 1.8t a4s being slower than the 1.8t jettas and golfs is weight..

I see what you mean. Actually, that's my line of thinking in wanting to go with an A4 instead of a Jetta - same engine - same gains - but more luxury. But like I said, before I buy one I want to read and observe what current owners think about their cars and lots people say that an A4 is comparitively slow - mostly due to extra weight and the Quattro sysem. I just wanted these people to expound on that.

Slow to one person is fast to another. 0-60 in 7 seconds would be fine for my daily driving - Though a car in the 6's would be awesome. But if the low 7's are possible with an upgraded filter element/chip//exhaust in an A4 then I am game.

I have the Neuspeed 1 bar chip with the 5 bar fpr and my A4 quattro is NOT as fast as my Revo chipped GTI. However, I also have Tiptronic. AND, I love driving the quattro. They are entirely two different cars.

Now, you may make more power with an APR or GIAC chip, but I've heard driveability is a little spikey. The Neuspeed driveability is just like stock--very smooth. (I actually got the Neuspeed chip because I didn't want to get too agressive since this is my wife's car. AND it was only $199!)

I may be wrong, but I think to get the spirited performance out of an A4 quattro that you get from a chipped FWD GTI or Jetta, you are looking at a bigger turbo.

A chipped A4 is not going to be as fast as a chipped Golf or Jetta, because, as was mentioned earlier, it weighs more, and if you get a quattro one, you've got extra drivetrain loss.

They are pretty quick, though. We're not talking stoplight racing off the line stuff, because they're simply not geared right for that (first gear is reeeeealy short on the 5 speeds), but on the highway, they're right quick.

I have an APR chip in mine. Drivability is fine - not overly peaky, etc. There was a small issue with the boost not always coming on completely smoothly, but that is fixed by an upgraded N75 valve, which runs about $70 or so. Now it's completly smooth - like stock, only faster!

And yeah, the A4 is a great car for the money. They can be had for not that much more than a nice Jetta, used, and they're much much nicer inside and overall, IMO.

thanks guys. this info is really helpful. exactly what i am looking for.

now i'm not a numbers geek or a dyno obsessed street racer or anything. but i am curious where a chipped A4 stands in 0-60 times and in WHP. if anybody has this info post up.

and keep the opinions and points of view coming. thanks.

As far as WHP i really don't know. But a b5 a4 1.8tq 5 speed with chip/exhaust should be able to run a low 7 sec 0-60 (7.0-7.3) which is a full second quicker than stock.

with a little reduction the scale can start to even out, I have had my car down to <3000lbs with just pulling the interior and 1/4 tank, I must say that the car drove a lot nicer like that

i've got an APR chipped 1.8T and it's a joy to drive. Probably not as quick as my VR6 jetta, but handling is no context, my A4 out handles my previous jetta any day. Unless you're coming from a highly modded J/G, then you'll have no probs.

You get about 50hp and 100ft/lbs with an APR chip. After driving my stock B5 A4 then getting chipped i felt like i was driving a rocket. Can't beat this interior either
