Mentioned in the Tokyo Preview thread, but here are some big pics:The wagon is truly handsome. I could go for one of those.

Very sharp! I like it lot, lots of shades of an IS/Altezza in the shape, not just the taillights mind you

Sweet! Sweet! Sweet! That yellow hatchback is awesome! Although I doubt it, I hope we get all three versions of the car here. I'd definately take the hatchback w/ the 220hp V6.

Hell yeah! I love it. All three look absolutely stunning, and I too hope we get the hatchback in North America (not holding my breath though). 220 hp sounds good too...maybe not as much as the Altima but that's okay. With the way the current Protege turned out, I have no doubt the 6 will handle very well. Two thumbs up. quote: Yeah, it does look really good. Is this thing fwd or rwd?
Considering it is the 626 replacement, you can be sure it is FWD.

Mazda is on a roll. 2001 - facelifted Protege, new Tribute SUV 2002 - Protege5, Protege MP3, more power for MPV 2003 - new 626, return of the RX seriesNow if only they could stuff some more horses under the hood of the Protege, they would be all set product-wise.

That's very sleek. If they can bring the hatckback version to our shore, it will definitely bring back the reincarnation of previous 626 Turbo hatchback which is really cool.

Folks, Mazda confirmed that the US will get all three versions--sedan, wagon and hatchback several months ago. In light of the way Elantra GT's are flying off dealers' lots, it seems hatchbacks are cool again. Very nice, BTW. Should give the Altima a run for its money.

The new 626 is based on a Mazda platform instead of Mondeo/X-Type platform.

No, the 6 has its own platform (according to Auto, Motor und Sport)

Really? That's great! Damn more immediate need for a new car, otherwise I'd surely wait for a 626 hatchback w/ the V6 (unless they come out soon) for surely these are the best looking new sedans to come to market since the Alfa Romeo 156.

Agree. The Altezza clear tailights trend is scary. The Altima and now, 626.

The taillights are just basically updates of the units used on the '72-76 RX3: Round lights in a chrome bezel... All the Altezza did was put them under clear plastic. (man, researching this remeinded me how much I wanted another RX3 coupe...)

I've got a few things to say:1) CLEARLY the sportiest looking medium, affordable FWD sedan now!!!!!!!!!! 2) May the god of GM forgive me, but I think I've found my next car. I think it just knocked the WRX and IS300 off their top standings on my list. 3) And I thought the P5 was a beautiful package. 4) Clowncar... between you and C'pal, you guys must troll WIECK.COM

I love everything on those cars except the ridiculous taillights.. the car looks a lot like the IS300 as it is, theres no need to rip off the taillights exactly. they just take away from the fluid design..Hopefully they'll come out with aftermarket taillights =]

You know... I fail to see any resemblance to the IS300.The car looks French to moi - except for the Acura grille, but then that grille is so generic that even Hummer could use it.

Would people stop with this "ripping off" obsession? Look at that picture of the Mazda RX3 I posted. That's before the Altezza. the Altezza has a single round red taillight in a triangular chrome bezel. the Mazdas are multiple round taillights in an elongated almost oval bezel.Think of how many basic designes there are. Round, square, rectangular, thin horizontal up high or down low, rounded rectangles, triangles. MOST taillights are based on similar shapes. Before the '80s, most had chrome bezels, too. Now they are heading back that way, as there are no more original forms without bezels. No one bitches about "ripping off" a bland design like this:
Just another rectangular taillight. Some have chrome, some don't. Some are ribbed slightly, some smooth. But everything from this Accord to Mustangs, from Camrys to Mercedes had reasonably similar designs during this time. The new Mazda 6's taillights are as different from the Altezza as the '85 626 was from this 1985 Accord. BFD.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I think the rear 3/4 shot of the blue sedan is the most indicative of the IS. The shape of the rear door window, the roof whip antenna, and the pull-type door handles are very similar, not that any of this is bad, mind you. I'm surprised you don't see this, unless you're being really sarcastic...

who gives a flying toss what it looks similar to??? looks bloody fantastic... thats all that matters.that is SUCH a huge step foreward for mazda... i was worried about their future after the previous 929 and 626... just put my fears to rest with the RX-8 and now this. i think bmw can start by taking a leaf out of mazdas book.

Will it be called the Mazda 6 when it reaches North America, or just 626?And why bother offering the sedan when the hatchback is so similar in appearance? Oh wait a minute, Americans are dumb and prefer sedans over far more practical hatchbacks, what was I thinking?
