List of cars with superchargers (stock, I mean) Help!« »

Is there any site or something that has a list of cars (yes, I've done yahoo searches etc) that came factory (ie: can be had from a wrecker) with a SC?
I know the Thunderbird SC, some LeSabre's etc... but what else (Corrado...) had a stock SC?
Thanks in advance.

Most factory superchargers require A LOT of work to fit to another engine. Turbos on the other hand ...

Sorry I couldn't offer an answer ...

Youd 'think' it would be easier (in a way) as you only have to deal with INCOMING air and nothing with the exhaust.
Ie: Do the intake plumbing (like a turbo would need), find a place/bracket to mount the SC and run the belt. But you wouldn't have to mess with the exhaust side.
Seems easier, perhaps I'm mistaken.

I think a SC would be harder to control boost becuase its handled by pulley, with a turbo you just adjust the wastegate. You would prolly have to get a cusotm pulley made to mathc your belt, and I presonally feel fabing a bracket that will hold the charger (and it would have ot be damn near perfect fit so the belt is square on and also tensioned correctly) would also be a beotch.

Im sure it can be done, but I dont think it would be ewasy or cheap. I would consider swapping in a X-flow head and turbo it or go with a neuspeed SC'er.

Okay, this may sound newbie ish (I am to the FI world)... but couldn't you put a wastegate on the SC to 'control' boost level? And why is the neuspeed one special... does it come with all brackets etc etc based on your engine?

The Neuspeed charger was designed for the particular engine, lots of engineering and research goes into it. That's why it's a perfect fit and all of that. They also put in a lot of effort to package it into something that would fit nicely into the engine bay.

You can't use a wastegate to control supercharged boost as the wastegate is normally between the turbo and head, on the hot side. It bleeds the exhaust before it gets to the turbo to control shaft speed, ie : boost. There are other ways of controlling supercharged boost though, like the pulley size.

Grand National GNX was turbo charged....

All the GM supercharged engines are based on the same 3800 engine.... A lot of engineering went into that motor.

Bonneville SSEi, Grand Prix GTP, Buick Rivera, Chevy Impalla SS, Ford Thunderbird SC, Mercery Cougar XR(something or other, same as the T-bird), Nissan Xterra, Nissan Frontier, new Ford Lighting and Mustang Cobra

Those are some of the cars that come from the factory w/ superchargers.

Yeah the GTP's are quite impresive (any of GM's cars with that engine really), I would never buy one simply because they are not avaialable in 5 speed
