Unless if you have been told in the job ad that calls are not accepted or wanted, then don't follow up with a call. However, it wouldn't be unreasonable if you were to call after submitting your resume for over three-four weeks and haven't received an acknowledgement of receipt of your credentials. It doesn't hurt to check if they have received your cover letter and resume right!? If you have had an interview, then sending up a follow up letter to say thanks is appropriate.

It couldn't hurt. These articles recommend waiting about one week. http://www.hotjobs.com/htdocs/....html http://www.careerjournal.com/c....html

I'd say it depends on the employer. My current employer gets really aggravated if you call. If they're interested, they'll call you. Here, they just look at you as a nuisance if you call. I realize not all employers are like this and it's really hard to judge from the outside.

write a letter to the empoyer thanking them for accepting your resume and you will be calling shortly to setup an appointment for an interview. Works for me.

I've always followed up an interview with a short hand written (I have very good penmanship ) letter.....thanking them for thier time and consideration for the opportunity to learn more about thier organization...blah, blah, blah.....about a paragraphs worth or so.Email taking the same route does the trick as well if you have the address....

I say yes, contact someone talk to someone with this on-line no talking to real people thing that is going on today I got sick of getting no response!
I made up a unique color portfolio and sent it out to a bunch of companies! followed up a week later with a phone call....As soon as I mentioned the color foldout portfolio they knew who I was instantly... They usually requested a normal resume to easily distribute to hireing managers but talking to someone and makign yoru self stand out even before they meet you helped me alot!

I was wondering about the follow up call. Faxed resume in yesterday. My wife thinks I should call tomorrow. Thing is I heard about a potential job at this place through my inlaws. There wasn't any specific job openings though, just that they sometimes need people. Maybe wait a week or two?

In relation to my current job and the a new job that i just recieved an offer for. Both commended me on my persistence and ability to follow up. Emails get moved to the bottom of their list quick, so it is good to follow up first by email and then call once you are fresh in their minds (if they even read the emails)

I know the feeling, I just finished making about 18 Self Promotional pieces They are definatley the way to go in a creative field. If you send a word document resume you're likely to get the circular file...
